Do you have any history on it? Is the ID tag still present? And if so, is it marked AS9 or AS10? |

Unfortunately I don’t have a whole lot of history of the transmission. I got it in a trade and have owned it maybe 7 or 8 years. I took it all apart and replaced the bearings and synchronizers. The tag for it was gone when I got it. The gears did have dimples on them though. I currently run it in my 57 Chevrolet and it has held up nicely behind the L88 427 in it.

With 3.36 gears and a 2.20 or 2.43 trans, you won't be setting the world on fire, and most guys here run street tires and spin anyway. If you're not hooking up, you likely won't break anything. So I personally wouldn't worry much about breaking it.
Now if you want to go to the track and start worrying about 60 foot times, it's another story. Spinnin ain't winnin. If it's just a fun street car, don't worry about it. Do what your budget allows, tire smoke is your friend. |
