Default Lost my Dad today

Basically sucks all around.

My folks belong to a cult, and told me years ago that they would rather not get to know my kids (their Grandkids) so they wouldn't miss them "after Armaggedon"". So I made my peace with that years ago.

My older brother called me this afternoon and told me Dad was in a vegetative state and thought I should know before they pull the plug on his ventilator. He had gone into the hospital two days ago for knee surgery, and they couldn't revive him after the operation. His brain activity dropped off the charts last night. I didn't even know he was going in. So my brother tells me they (he and my sister, who are also in the cult) decided they wouldn't call me until after he died, in case he came around and got better, in which case, they wouldn't call me at all, I guess.

Then after I get to the hospital, I stand around waiting for thirty minutes until the "Elders" finish whatever kind of ritual they were performing. After that, I went in and was with my Dad for a few minutes. I could tell he was long gone.

I then went into the waiting room, where my Mom and about twenty from the group were sitting around. I went straight over to Mom, bent over, kissed her on the cheek and told her I loved her. She replied with, "We weren't going to call you." I just said, "I'm glad you did" and left.

Can't wait for the funeral and all the pleasant surprises that will bring.

Sorry for the rant, just getting it off my chest.

Kurt

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad and the emotions that go with it along with the cult factor.
I hope N pray that you feel as good as can be expected.

That is a different life situation to be faced with but stand firm and it sounds like you have as much of you possibly can.

Take care Kurt.

Sorry for your loss. I Have the same issue with my father...not that he is in a cult but doesn't want anything to do with his kids. I can't imagine how you are feeling. My father had both knees done and I found out 3 days after when someone called me from the hospital by accident. I guess that is my rant.

I guess just keep plugging away. You can't change people and you are a stronger man for it. Just try not to buy black Nike hightops. (sorry, I had to say it)

Sad to hear Kurt. I don't look forward to the day when I get the same news and I agree with Troy, no matter what he was your dad, I know this firsthand.

Sorry for your loss. Prayed one up for you and your family.

After my mom died, my dad handed her ashes off to my sister, gave away the stuff she loved (including wedding pictures), and pretty much cut us kids out of his life.

He got remarried within two years and has only seen us kids 7 days in the last three years. Before her death, we'd see them 4-5 days a month. His new wife is the one nagging him to come see us. If it weren't for her we wouldn't see him at all. My daughters cry for hours because to them they've lost both their grandparents and can't figure out why grandpa doesn't love them anymore. Just tears me up inside.
