Agreed the tail of the '66 is the best of all bar none IMHO.
Down side is the light output/visibility Sux, but can be improved.

As far as the shift knob/ball, Two ways to see if it's OE the round style 3 and it will not have a metal threaded insert. The 3rd pic is a Re-Pop.

Best of luck with her!
This probably sounds crazy, but... even if that shift knob is an original, I like the black one better and the PHS does not show the wood knob, so I plan to put a black knob back on.

Couple more...

Upon close and further inspection, the car's obviously had some paint work done at some point, so I guess it's not a true "survivor", but whatever was done, it was done more than 25 years ago and if it was that bad it would have "blistered out" by now. Does not take away my excitement at all, and since we are just going to drive it, it's all good in my book. We have put almost 500 miles on it now, I took it to a show that was 80 miles one-way, and my wife and I have been cruising in it a LOT. She's decided this is her favorite GTO we have ever owned, that's saying a lot.

Geez, that's about as good as you can get for a result as far as wondering what it will look like with Rallye I's

I have a set of the Wheels Vintiques Rally 1's with the Silvertown red line radial tires. I got them thru Summit's package deal. Very happy with them and they really look nice.

Hung out at a local show yesterday and a few PY members were there, one has some original Rallye I's off of a '66 GTO he once owned, with all the trim hardware, looking like I will pick those up this week...

Well Greg, I went ahead with that plan and I have to agree, it looks fantastic. Got a nice set of original wheels from a local who also is a PY member (Paul G)
Perhaps the only drawback is they appear to be October '66 and the car is a Feb '66, but you can only see the dates if you remove the tires. I also went with a radial, and the ride is very nice, and for some reason (probably the slight difference in tread width) I can also turn the steering wheel with one hand now. It was kind of rough with the Keystones and manual steering. I even had them aired up and it still was kind of pain to steer. Much easier now! Attached a few pix of how she looks now.

Did you paint the drums red Greg? I seem to recall that being the case in '66 if you got the Rally I wheels.
