I was wondering if they would make that mistake. The 67 is absolutely different from the 69. I have seen guys re-skin real 69 T/A hoods where the understructure had been rotted out. Many guys are not aware that the understructure is not the same from 67-69.
Good luck on the recovery of a hood or your cash 69Firebirdman. I remember hearing that last name "Tuttle" being bantered around a number of years back and it was nothing good. Maybe in the Chevy world? I have no idea about the first name or state however.

Angry WHAT ??????????

I just had my kid drive all the way to get this hood from the guy Terry bought it from on EBAY. It is NOT AN ORIGINAL 69 T/A hood. It is a re-pop. The hood latch catch is the wrong one. The frame is not cut out to fit the RamAir pan. The edges where the hood meets the fender is not as sharp as it should be, it is very rounded compared to the original that I have on my car. The spot welds are not right either. The center ridge is way too sharp and has a crease just below ridge instead of rounded area going up to center ridge. The beak also looks wrong, low, short, just odd looking compared to my original.

The shape of the scoops at the back of the hood is wrong also. I think what these reproduction T/A hoods need is at least 1/4"-1/2"skin of bondo on the whole hood to re-shape the contours. I do not think that the value of a real 69 T/A hood would be affected by these repro's.

I wonder if this was a first run or protoype repro hood? Did the seller say how or where he got it from? Can you post some pics of the areas in question with your original hood pics as a reference?

Original hood, scoops at rear are still above center by about 1/4" to 3/8"

Repop, scoops are almost level with center of hood

Good review
Lets hope that this was a pre production piece that should have been headed for the dumpster.

Great info and pics John. Are you certain that this is not an original re-skinned hood? I know that you are "dialed in" on 69 T/A hoods. The reason I ask is that the top skin does look like it has been around for a while. Additionally, when many guys re-skin these original hoods, they peel the sides and front back to separate the inner and outer structure. This would explain the loss of the sharp edges and improper spot welds. Many people were not aware that the 67 understructure is different from the 68-69 and I know of a few hoods that were reskinned with the wrong understructure. Believe me, I am in no way doubting the inferiority of the repro. I just thought that this one looks a little aged and the repros just came out.
