The frame and skin of this hood appear to be brand new, I see no signs of any re-working or aging. There is no pitting that has been painted over, just thick and orange peeled, and some sprayed from a distance pebbly finish primer?, semi-gloss paint?. also there appears to be two diff. layers of primer, first one is a darker black than the one on the top. What else I do see is, wrong shape at front and rear of scoops, (I think the whole scoop area is low) side edges, center ridge and beak.

its amazing that there would be that much energy expended on something thats incorrect.
But I see it all the time in the "global economy"

I've spoken to people who have these kind of parts made over seas and there can be several iterations of the part sent back to the US for fitment and quality checks before the part goes into full production. The dies get reworked each time and the stamping process (it takes more than one hit or operation to make this stuff) gets modified too.

I wonder if that was the hood off the "Superteen Firebird"
that someone won up here in Minnesota?
Does anyone know what the aftermarket hood
George Barris Produced looks like and did he change it?

The parts place sent me some pics of their 69 repro.T/A hood.

The beak looks the same as this hood from the ebay auction.

Parts place hood

The hood Terry won on ebay.

Orig. hood.

The parts place hood has better mounting tabs for the scoop inserts. I can't tell if the inserts areas are stamped deep enough.

Suspect hood. Mounting tabs are not indented like the parts place hood and the whole lip area is not stamped deep enough. and is not the right shape. too wide front to back by about 1/4" or less. too wide side to side also. My orig. scoop insert will not drop in on this hood.

Orig. hood. scoop area pressed deep and has indented tabs.

John, in the photo above, you showed the PP hood, Terry's hood, and an original. From those pics, it still looks like the original has a blunter, more rounded beak, where the other two are far more pointy. Is that correct?

Yes that is what I see too. The arch of the beak is different from the orig. also.

Looks like that hood from Minn is a very poor repro.
Might be OK for a $500 hood for a clone.
I was told almost 2 yrs ago that the TA hood was in progress
and advised to sell sell sell if I had any OEMs.

I talked of repoping these hoods 10 years ago or more. I did also hear a few years ago that the Parts place was maybe going to make them. All I know right now is something is real fishy, and do to the way the parts place T/A hood beak looks , there is not a re-pop hood that can pass for N.O.S. looking. I do not think 2 different sources made dies to re-stamp 69 T/A hoods. This hood I have for here for Terry was not done on an english wheel, was not pounded out by hand. is not a re-skin of an orig. This skin is stamped and is brand NEW!

I have no clue why someone would try and pass the repo off as a original, they are diff.in many ways.I think they are a great buy for a firebird owner that wants the T/A look-hood for their car.I have a real T/A and am building a street bird and wanted the hood and spoiler and just could not see spending 5000-10000 for a factory hood.JMHO,Tom

He is ANGRY and has every right to be ANGRY. When I am angry I type in caps too.

You are really asking him to turn his anger off or not show it. I sure that will be impossible untill this deal is made right.

I'm unclear on what the heck is going on here.

Who sold who what hood?

Is it the same as the Repo Tom bought or different.

Is the seller posting on this thread as well and does he maintain that it is an original?
