Thumbs up She's DONE!!!

She's done...going to pick up the engine harness from M&H Electric in a few minutes and going to fire her up TODAY!!!

Bummer...the engine bay looks so good, now the underside of the hood looks like crap! I'll deal with that later...

good news.....the bad news is after you drive her for awhile, its getting dirty again...
I HAD mine very nice and clean 5 yrs ago (+-15-17k miles ago), but the good news is I enjoyed every one of those miles!

Do you drive in the rain? I never do...my cars are allergic to the rain!!!
My LeMans has 2000+ miles on her, she still looks great...also, I'll post a picture of the car in front of the "rock house" at Aliso Creek for you!

I'm not into the "car show perfection" thing; however, I do enjoy bringing stuff back from the dead and making it look new again. I deleted the "before" pictures, but take my word...these headlight buckets looked like CRAP!

Had a minor problem (I swear, that's the story of her life...) the heater hose came off the rear of the block while we were breaking in the cam. Hot water everywhere! The 90* nipple (had to use that to clear the HEI) attached to the heater nipple needed a small lip to retain the heater hose. Quick fix, wiped down the engine bay, finished breaking in the cam and took her for a test drive. She drives and sounds great! I need bigger tires up front (205/60 15 currently) and a front end alignment, the power steering pump is howling (WTF?) AND.....the engine bay looks so good, I really need to reshoot the underside of the hood!

She'll be done by Sat 4/25, just in time for the Seal Beach Car Show! I'm stoked!!!

Looks fantastic. Where did you get your filler panels from, (the covers in front of the radiator) , who makes a good repro. Thanks and good luck at the show. Here in ny it is still struggling to get into the 50 s. Its been a long winter and our shows out here start in may. Iam so ready to start cruizin again. Derek

Great Job! Too bad you are so far away, we like to see your 67. No that many 67 verts in my area.

Those are factory, didn't need repros. Check out Ames, they've got a great return policy if the panels don't look too good.

Thanks! Not too many in my area either - 1st Gen 'verts...shoot, 1st Gen anything is pretty rare in my area!

I really hope all the problems I've had with her are finally sorted out.

Quick update - good news bad news...

Good news - she runs GREAT! Not too snappy off the line...stupid 3.08 rear end...but tons of top end. Temps and pressures are good, kick down working fine, starts right up, I'm stoked.

Bad news - the engine bay looked so good I decided to sand down and respray the underside of the hood. That SEM paint is awesome, but it had a wierd reaction with the old paint and started peeling in certain areas...had the same problem with my LeMans...so the hood is getting blasted today. Also, the heater doesn't work, neither does the headlights but I'll deal with that later.

Did I say she's got TONS of top end???

Default Final update...

She was finished on Wednesday, I've already put 250 miles on her (my loooong commute to work) and she was at the Seal Beach Classic Car Show yesterday. She's running fine, I think I need to get the carb & distributor dialed in but...

I'll post some pictures soon.
PS - that 3.08 rear end is really bumming me out...

I got an all new grill when she was repainted 4 years ago, but the entire headlight assembly was restored.

We have a bead blasting cabinet at work; mainly we use it for car stuff but occasionally we use it for HVAC stuff according to IRS guidelines it was therefore a legit business write off!

i don't think you should feel bad. in a vert, you need subframe connectors for alot of twisting force that lower gears make. and unless you run sticky and wide rear tires, you'd just spin the stockers anyway. 3.08 is great for a cruiser and good on your wallet mpg-wise.

With a 400 , a 3.08 gear set shouldn't kill the low end.

I dont think so either. I had 2:78s in my convert and could smoke them for miles!!
Then I blew up the rear end and went to a 3:36 and blew that one up.
Now I have 3:42s and as far as distance and torque off the line, I liked the 2:78s as it would fry tires and get good highway RPMS.
My other hardtop has a 400 in it also and it can smoke the tires at will up to about 10 miles per hour.
Something isn't right with your combo.

Thats what I'm thinkin' -
I dropped '73 400 in my 78 Bonnie years ago: basic re-ring/bearings & valve job. It had great low end : It would leave a fairly long black mark with the a/c running from a dead stop. The car was heavier with 2.41s and a low compression stock combo.
What cam did you put in that again Paul ?
