Looks pretty hideous with a green interior.
Just wondering why no pics of the data plate and or VIN. Also to prove authenticity should there be a paper trail? |

Dang Boss, that VIN picture is so huge it looks like a shot of the moon surface!
I think I saw the lunar lander next to the #'s. |

Now that we have the VIN, the controversy regarding the D80 spoiler should be put to rest.
Dang I wish I could get the car also. |

I would like to see what paper work they have on this car.
I have talked to alot of people about this car and have been told many times they never keep the vin # of the "I dream of Jeannie Trans Am". And there was no way to track it down. I also talked to George Barris and he told me there was no known pics of the "I dream of Jeannie Trans Am" and that was well over a year ago. Also just to let people know they did in the past make a aftermarket "superteen firebird" kit just like the one on this car. Is it the real car? |

not really.no D80 on this Data plate and this car as the seller states was purchased as a 400 car with Barris adding all the fake T/A stuff.

Look at the reply he is basing that its the orginal car for the show
Q: Is this the original car used on the TV set, or is it a recreation? Thanks Jim Aug-04-09 A: Yes, this is the original car used on the TV set. I've found it in two shots in two episodes, and the original black and white photos I have from Barris Custom confirm this based on the position and orientation of some of the added body parts - parts which I have never seen on any original or repro '69 T/A. He doesnt state anywhere that they did make these aftermarket parts for firebirds. |

It would be interesting to see what info he has on the car.
One thing that I have noticed on this car is The "I dream of Jeannie 1969 trans am" had a bar in the middle of the under side of the spoiler that went thru the trunk lid to some kind of control that adjusted the pitch of the three piece spoiler this car doesnt have that why? But it does have a three piece spoiler. |

Also interesting he says, "When I got the car (circa 1977) it was dark blue with white stripes.
I repainted the car white with blue stripes..." so it appears to have maybe always retained this paint scheme, just different colors over the years.

Hmmm, just me, or is this thread messed up by those pix? Had to scroll to find the Post Reply box.
Anyway. I doubt this is the IDOJ car. Data Plate shows this car was built with the extra cost Paint color Carousel Red (code 72). The IDOJ car appeared to have been Limelight Green (although I seem to recall there may have been a "plain" Carousel Red 'bird also used in IDOJ). Either we are to believe that Barris resprayed the entire car to Limelight Green or this simply wasn't the IDOJ car (leastways, not the one we think of as the IDOJ car with the distinctive spoilers and such). This car was assembled in late Dec. '68 and most likely shipped on or before Jan 2, 1969. I base this on my '69 'bird log, I've recorded that 223679L112389 was shipped 1/2/69, so assume this one may also have been shipped that day). IIRC, the IDOJ 'bird appeared in episodes shot the FOLLOWING TV season. My guess, it was a car produced many months after the ebay car, most likely a Norwood produced 'bird built around the time IDOJ would have begun shooting for the '69-'70 season, around Sept. '69. Since the That is just my opinion. The Seller claims the "original" paint colors appear under the now missing Barris badging. I'm not sure the IDOJ car had any "Barris" badging, but I'd like to know if the ebay car shows Carousel Red as the original color (and per the Data Plate). Kinda curious that it might show some sort of Green over that (and before the various ensuing claimed color changes, Green to Blue to White). Or is the Seller just assuming it was originally Green (without actual evidence) because he knows the IDOJ car was Limelight Green (from the show evidence) and simply buys into the claim that THIS must be that car? I think it has been well established that Barris offered customizing kits for the Firebird, likely a different kit for '69 than in '68 because of styling differences between the two model years. I think this ebay car is just one of many such 'birds that sport vestiges of the Barris created parts. But unless some evidence exists that shows this particular car was owned by the TV studio that produced IDOJ, I'm having a hard time making any connection between the obvious evidence and the IDOJ car. If the Data Plate had shown Limelight Green, I might have been a lot more curious about it. I think this guy has a neat 'bird that greatly resembles the one that appeared in IDOJ and has jumped to the conclusion that it must be the same car. I find the evidence weak. |

John, very interesting.
Since this seller is using my YouTube IDOJ videos as evidence to his claim, I'd like to offer another possible theory. Just so everyone knows, I have no idea who the seller is, and I am not tied into this car at all. Just a theory from a Pontiac fan.... Tony Nelson (Larry Hagman) drove a Mayfair Maize 69 Firebird 400 convertible that last season of IDOJ, and Roger drove a Carousel Red 69 Firebird 400 convertible. At some point during the season, Roger switched to a green/white stripe customized 69 Firebird. Could this be the explanation for the color change? I seem to recall reading that the director or producer liked one of the "custom Firebirds" that one of the stage hands drove, so could this Code 72 car have been sent over to Barris, his custom touches added, a green/white paint scheme added, then used in the show? I'm not sure Pontiac would have supplied a 3rd car to the studio (if requested) for customization, especially considering the studio wanted to change the car into something that did not represent a car offerred by Pontiac. This was a low budget comedy show, cars were not part of the basic plots, so perhaps this IS the same car, modified by Barris. And the other theory could be that this is simply one of the kits that Barris sold back then, using parts designed for the popular "Superteen" Firebird. Just theories...
