yeh looks just like what i had in mind.
If someone has the GTO resto guide, it should have pictures of all 69 caps.
Mine is buried in a box, under some other boxes.

Those are the deluxe hubcaps called for on the PHS. With all the options they chose, I'm surprised they didn't go with the much cooler rallys.

Cammer-6: "Only TAs got the 1 inch bar". I take it it wasn't available as an option. I've got one I pulled from a 69 T/A subframe -- along with the steering box -- to put on my 400 car. (and this is my 400th post)

Story: Some guy took a real 69 T/A, stripped off the parts and put them on a convertible, so he could have a convertible T/A. Well, he forgot a few parts at the salvage yard...

You could order em over the counter (I know of a couple on first gen camaro's that way) but not as an option on any other f-body. functional, if you need to sell that box haha drop me a pm, my Trans Am has just a base power steering box right now

Even though the engine seems to be running great, as part of the restoration it will be coming out very soon. Was wondering what you guys thought about rebuilding it? My plans are to tear it down (taking many pics during the process) and simply hone it, get the block and parts dipped for cleaning, re-ring it with cast rings, new timing chain, new bearings and put it back together with all the original parts. I just want to keep this as original as possible with a slight freshening up. Engine currently has 82k.

Is the cam in a Ram Air III installed straight up?

I would replace the pistons if you are going to take the engine apart. Even though the mileage isn't high, the pistons are 32 years old. They aren't too expensive and maybe you'll save yourself another rebuild job later.

I don't think you'll know whether you can get away with only a hone until you tear it down and inspect/measure.

I agree. Just checked the compression and all the cylinders are at 175-180 which is good. As long as there is no more than 5 thousandths taper I think I'll just hone so that everything is as original as possible. I will also need to get some hardened valve seats for the unleaded gas.

The reason for wanting to just hone is I have been reading that collectors would rather have a not so perfect original car than a perfectly restored car that looks original but it's not.

I am with keith k. I think you need to see what you are dealing with first. Also you have to ask yourself how much you are actually going to drive this vehicle. However I like your idea as far as not getting carried away with the "rebuild". As far as the hardened seats are concerned I would only have them installed if there is evidence of valve seat recession.

i wouldnt tear it apart at all if it is running good. only original once. clean the thing as good as it gets and enjoy it.

What M/C said. Reseal it, check the bearings, possibly roll a set in it with an oil pump and drive it.
I wouldn't fool with the hardened seats unless the heads are worn already. Too much of a chance of getting into a cooling passage when cutting the head for them. The Pontiac Olds, and Caddy's have high nickle content which make them wear longer. Chevies are the ones that NEED it the first time around.

run low lead av gas and some additive and youll be fine on the valves

What is AV gas? Remember I'm in California and our gas sucks to begin with.

I like the idea of just cleaning it up and driving keeping it 100% original. If it runs good why screw with it I guess? Anyways will wait to see how it drives when I get the new clutch in it before making any decisions.

Here are some pics of work that has been done. Everything has been sandblasted and repainted using all the original parts. The engine got new bearings, gaskets and a valve job. The heads were in pretty rough shape.
