Dumb question I know but...

On my daily driver...

I have been thinking recently of getting new shocks because they are starting to act a little worn. But, a problem developed last night that I am curious about. While getting on a ramp I hit a small bump in the road and it took a couple of seconds for my front end to relax, but my steering somewhat froze on be, forcing me to back off of it until the ramp straightened out a bit. It acted like at the speed I was going ~45 mph it did not want to turn the wheel in the direction that I was going - felt a little like the wheel had a mind of its own.

This has never happened before. The car does not float, nor does it pull in one direction or another.

So, basically, is my front suspension shot or is it something as simple as needing the shocks quick?

If it is shot, typically what is the cost to redo it? The car is a 1976 Olds Cutlass.

I just did my 78 TA and the cost was around $350. That's new bushings, ball joints, I & O tie rod ends and sleeves, idler arm, and centerlink. I did all the work. It's nasty hard work...

In a big operation you have to expect a few screw ups.
