Default 1973 Trans Am for sale - seems like a good price

https://buffalo.craigslist.org/cto/d...883789701.html

I've always loved the 1973 SD455 Trans Am. One of my 'dream' cars. I have Rocky Rotella's book (The Definitive Firebird & Trans Am Guide: 1970 1/2 - 1981 ) - this book has some great and interesting info on the SD455. Anyway, the 1973 listed for sale seems like a good price. I see prices for these all over.

How did they pull off a 4spd with A/C? Is this one of those "they go around the order restrictions" cars - or was it originally an automatic? My initial guess is that this was originally and automatic, but I've also learned that exceptions can exist.

Cool It is NOT an original 4-speed, at least not according to the Pontiac Canada billing

Standard no-added-cost transmission was a Turbo 400. That's what THIS Trans Am was born with.

I don't see pics of the console with shifter or the clutch pedal, though, so the listing might just have had 'manual' trans clicked by accident.

Regardless, it's still a gorgeous car.

There are a lot of little details on that one that are way off. I would consider that a good driver at this point, just based off the crappy photos.

Is there a SD 455 engine in it?

Or.... some other engine that's not a SD? That could be why the "reasonable" price. Dig deeper!

Reading the options listed I see S/BLTS DELET for a $11.50 credit. But the one bad picture of the interior clearly shows lap belts, and I think I see at least 1 shoulder belt in it.

So were Seat Belts not required in GB at the time?

As we all know, a 73 legit SD-455 Trans Am is a near six figure car at a minimum. So I would proceed with extreme caution on this one. Putting a car like this on Craigslist is the first warning sign of a scam. If it looks too good to be true.........we know the rest of the story. Non-original engine, if thet's the case reduces the value by 40-50% minimum if not an SD at all.

There are a number of things wrong, but if it’s in Canada and in Canadian money, it would be worth a good look and some detective work.

just went to google and typed in "1973 trans am for sale". I saw this link
https://classiccars.com/listings/vie...ntario-l9h-5h6

This 1973 SD455 on classiccars looks similar to the Craigslist SD455. Both 1973 SD455's , red with rally rims. The classiccars ad shows dealer as Old Brock Muscle Cars and they look to have two 1973 SD455's for sale and five 1974 SD455's for sale !

Could this be the same 1973 SD455 for sale? Looks like this is a dealer and he also has another 1973 SD455 Trans Am for sale !

Not the same. One has cheezy trim rings and no side mouldings, the other has side mouldings and no hood bird.

Craigslist ad

Dealer ad

CL ad said repaint in 96. This one says original paint, unrestored (also says numbers match)

1971 nose, 1971 or 72 seats, gauges in instrument bezel where AC vents should be., no engine pictures....

If you want a “no story” car this probably isn’t it.

In late 1973, I was looking at a brand new SD Trans Am at Long Pontiac/Cadillac in Framingham MA.

It was Buccaneer Red with a white interior.

Sticker was over $5k.

Girlfriend did not like the color combo, so I bought a Z28 instead......

I would’ve dumped the girlfriend and bought the S.D.

It was a 4 speed.

A big regret not buying it and keeping it.

But not as big of a regret as not buying a numbers matching 1970 Hemi Cuda for $4,500 in 1976.
