Anyone know someone using ABS brakes relativly new hydro boost?? It's a replacement for the vacuum booster. It uses the hydraulic pressure from your power steering pump to generate the assist. Since I need booster, master cylinder, and combination valve anyway this could make my vacuum concerns meaningless. Total package is around $650.

got my HydroBoost with MasterCylinder for $11 from a U-Pull-it.

Gotta rebuild it before I R&R the vacuum booster, due to hydro-leakage.

Nothing TCS or ABS about it...yet.

By ABS I meant American Brake and Speed. It's definately not an ABS pices. Where did you find one for $11 in a U-Pull-It ??? Nice find...

...my Hydro boost came with the aluminum Master cylinder (frontDisc/RearDrum),and power steering hoses.

There is a vent line from the hydro-boost unit that drains back into the PSpump resivoir...I'm gonna have to add a 3/8 resivoir fitting to my 68 PS pump

Discovered the 76-78 Eldo's had this system also. Since I am using their rear calipers I'm looking for a set up from one. Shouldn't be too difficult. Thanks for the info...

i had low vacuum and my brakes didn't work too well. i got a vacuum pump out of a eurosport chevy classic. forget the year, but it pulls 21" and is fairly small. got it for under 10 bucks. not familiar with hydro but thought id offer my solution to my prob. one question though? if for some reason you throw a belt, do you lose all braking power?

I did a lot of research on Hydra-boost after seeing it on Malcolm MacKellers early prototype
Overhead Cam Pontiac.

I knew it was a factory part on diesels and such but did not know how it worked.

I work for Ford in Engineering and my 600 hp Pool
Car has hydra-boost on it. Fact is ALL MUSTANGS
from 1996 on have Hydra-boost on them.

I made a simple bracket mod to an existing 67 power brake bracket to match the Ford bolt pattern
and adapted a screw thread to the brake pedal instead of the ford round loop type attachment
to the brake lever.

I was very happy with the hydra-boost on the Ford
Mustangs and did not have to rebuild my 2000
model year unit. Tom V.

Poks, yes, if you throw a belt you loose all power assist, but not all braking power. It'll basically revert back to 'manual' brakes, minus the friction/return spring losses in the hydroboost unit.

67 455 Bird ragtop:

disassemble, clean, and reassemble the Hydro-leak unit, so that it doesn't Rust-proof your firewall.

I plan to use SILICONE FLUID in liew of any fabric gaskets. Otherwise, I plan to do relief-grinding on mating surfaces to concentrate clamping forces on the sealing areas.

Really looking forward to seeing the Driverside firewall for once.

Uhm...SILICONE SEALER...not really FLUID for long.

I hope.

Thanks for all the advice. The Eldo pump mounts a little different from the normal booster. But making a new mounting plate for it will be a snap. Poks idea on the vacuum pump out of the euro chevy sounds like a good fall back plan.
