Go to a auto parts store and ask if you can look at there pre- formed hose stock, there you will likely find a hose with a 90 bend with the right ID, that may or may not be long enough.
If not splice it with a straight union into your current hose.
Though most stores may not stock them, Ii know that Gates brand has heater hose with 45 and 90 ends in different IDs and lengths that you can get ordered up.

Hey Steve, thanks for the reply, but that is not the problem, I am looking to come off the cyl with the 90* so that the hose is tucked under the dist, regardless of where the dist. is timed.

Not to mention it would look a hell of a lot better.

I believe those came on the 301 engines.
Haven't seen them around for a while...

I dont think they are available anymore. It sure would look better than a straight heater hose all curled up to fit. I never liked the way that looked. I would get at least a heater hose with a 90 degree end and trim it close to the end so it would come out and turn. You could always get a new fitting and weld a 90 degree nipple on it. Maybe go to NAPA or Carquest and look what molded 5/8 hoses they have on the wall, you never know what you may find that will fit. Gates makes a few "universal" hoses with 90 degree ends (NAPA has Gates). I may get a hose for my Firebird, If I find one I like, I will let you guys know.

Yeah, but that still doesn't address the problem of the vacuum advance hitting the hose nipple, I know, I know, take the dist out and move it a tooth.

I would just like a bit more "room" in that area, that's all.

Default Heater hose

Stan, many years ago I put a freeze plug at the back of the head where you are talking and put the heater hose nipple (the standard one) in the front of the head. Cleaned up the distributor area a lot.

Also, I couldn't tell that it made a single degree of difference in cooling. This was on a pretty decently built 455, FYI.

I'd try a local hydraulic line supplier, they have all kinds of fittings.

Well, here's your chance to contribute to the Pontiac hobby. You could have a local machine shop make a set of aluminum donuts that are a slight interference on the outer diameter and pipe tapped in the center. You would drive in the donut, then screw in a 90° brass fitting. These donuts would run about 10-15 dollars a pop if you made 40+...

Humm, I just "assumed" it would be more economical for a vendor that was "cough-cough" already IN THE BUSINESS, that already had avenues for resources and associates with channels to sell the product to come up with something.

But, if I have to make them myself, no biggie, won't be the first thing I had to build that didn't exist.

These coolant fittings for cast iron heads in place of the nipple are already being made to screw in a 1/2" npt fitting of your choice. Down towards the bottom of page here

http://www.precisionautomotivespecia...ine-Parts.html

I believe 67cruiser makes them and sells them also, his may be aluminum but not for sure. The ones in the link are stainless steel.

^^^Those are 3/4 , you need 1/2 npt. Should be able to go to napa or some local hardware store and get them.
