Default Heater core box flaps

I just got into the heater core box and wanted to know if anyone has replaced the flaps and seals.
It has 3 metal flappers, each with a seal. I dont want to split the box but would like to get them out for cleaning and replacement.

Default Heater Box Seals

Here's a couple pics of my heater box. I took two of the flaps out as you can see, but couldn't figure out a method to get the third one out without some further disassembly, or bending, so I left it in place. I had it blasted, primed, painted, and then glued the seals in place. It took some finesse on the third seal since I had to do it in place but it's worked out great as far as I can tell. I got lax on my picture taking and didn't get any after it was completed, sorry!

Are the 2 flaps you took out from the ends, leaving the center one in place?
Do the pivot pins just pull out to release them?
The bigger one has a foam seal and the end one has a rubber seal with staples, the center one I cant tell
It looks like the inside of the box did not have any paint on it from factory and the outside was a semi flat black. Was this finish the same as the top of the dash?
Thanks

Default Heater Box Seals

Yes, the two end doors are the ones I removed by pulling the pins out. You may have to spray some WD-40 on them to get them out after 40+ years, just note how the pins and the doors go back in, and take plenty of pics. The one that had staples in I just removed the staples and glued in all of the seals. The center one is hard to reach but you have to do the best you can in trying to get the seal lined up, just take your time. As far as the paint goes you can paint it whatever color you want, but if you're looking for the factory color I believe it's 60% gloss, but again there are variations.
