Thanks Murph. I'm prepared to give you the time you need to sharpen the razor. Then I need a shave. SHOTGUN! hahaha

I know when we were at the track last year my car came up 3660 with me in it, 215#

Once I'm done I hope to be around 3500 with me in it. All steel and stockish. But then I am going to add connectors.

Anyone else have the weight of some of the components? I have some factory buckets I can weigh, but they're 200 miles away right now... I figure this thread can help document where the weight is and common over all weight too.

Cammer, I bet the OHC is fun to drive!

Couldn't tell ya if it is early/late '68, no cowl tag. TD, I may remove rear seats for day at track, not sure if will make that big'a difference? Can't think of anything else to shave, remember, my car is a pretty car, not a race car Kelly

LOL, at 184-185 I figured I was more of a "heavy weight"....15 yrs ago....the Shiner competition could`ve been interesting ,but not at this advanced age ...Lol

you`ll have me beat....

BUT , put the cars on a 1.5 lane wide gravel forest road , and we`ll do some rallying!

Besides at the track where are some typical places one can go to get a car weighed for a reasonable price?

My 68 is a stripper (bench, no rally's, no AC, no PS, no PB, spacesaver, etc) so I'd love to see just how light it is. AMA guidlines for weight seem to be pretty genreric although whoever posted 67s are the lightest is definitely right on. Weight-wise, 69>68>67.

PS I'm in S FLA...

I remember using a truck scale once. A friend of mine knew about it. Ask some truckers in your area.

That is what I used. I found them under "WEIGHERS" in the Yellow Pages. Kel

I can think of a few wieght diff"s.

Vent windows. But think that would add some...
Interior panels. Doors at least.
Rear springs. Big diff.
Frt park & rr side marker lamps. But the 67 ft lwr pnls wieght more

Maybe sheet metal was thicker on 68"s?

the 67 is lighter because they didnt have so many options on them as the 68/9's did. also tthe metla is slightly thinner from what ive read. depending on what you doing with the car you can get it down ALOT! just depends on what you willing to sacrifice for the time slips. if you drop the spare tire/jack you'll save around 25#. i read once when a mag was doing this if you stripped the interior down to the drivers seat with door panels, removed the spare tire and lessendd the tire pressure to 15# you can knock off almost a second from your slip. alos raise the back of the hood to make it more arrowdynamic so the air flows better over the car. this knocks off.2 from the time. putting a washer under the hood where the rear bolt is accomplishes this.

I posted this awhile back but thought I'd add it here for reference in case anyone wondered what that lump under the hood actually weighs.
Complete 400 engine, iron heads and water pump, but without headers or flywheel attached.

Not that you could run without it, but now you know.

Anyone know what is the wt difference between aluminum heads vs Iron?
Aluminum water pump vs iron?
Aluminum bellhousing vs Scattershield?

Race wieght at Pontiac Nationals(Norwalk) last year was 3565.

Been think'n bout this all winter.
Car has to be repainted. Vinyl top is off for bubble rust underneath.

May go with a glass bolt on hood.
Lower fenders corners will have to be patched.
So maybe replace them with glass also.
Main concern is fenders for street/strip.
Both wheel houses FULL of stuff. Remote filters, ignition module, line lock, etc.
Anyone try factory wheel houses with glass fenders?
Keep in mine street/strip car.

The pic's of the fenders look like i would have to make brackets/mounted on firewall to hold hood hinges.
No big deal there.
They do have light strength hinge springs.
