what happens when you get 2 or more people that think they can't live without something. i was thinking they went for 3500-4000 back in the high days, now with the economy being down, think the seller is doing real well for himself.

I was watching this one & thinking of bidding on it, but not for that much. I'm skeptical of the $4,550 high bid - they weren't bringing that much in 2006, so I find it hard to believe it would now...

Ha, ha, it's one thing to get a high bid ... it's another to get payment!

yeah that is a bit more than I wanted to pay, and yes I bought the carb and it is paid for hahaha. The way I see it I have a 70 judge 4 speed I'm restoring, all original numbers matching but the carb, someone swiped to stash in a closet or put on a shelf. I bought the car low enough that I can spend "stupid" money on a carb and still be well below the market value AND have a complete numbers matching judge. To some numbers matching may not matter but to me and to others it does. IMO these parts need to get out of the closets and off the shelves and get put on cars where they belong.

kind of what i figured. thought it had to be a ram airIV TA or a judge that needed it. those are the ones that that kind of money will be repaid in the end.

i got lucky when i bought the 7041267 for my 71 TA, and got it at a very good price. i need the carb you just got, but i don't think the value would be the same on my GTO. it will be matching codes but not matching number, so not the same bang for the buck that you will get.

good luck and please post some ictures of your Judge as you go along.

You gotta be kidding me right ??????? $4550.00 for a carb that need's to be rebuilt !!!!! Maybe a NOS one. That's crazy stupid money and some guy's are hard pressed to pay $1500.00 for a 74 SD 455 Auto carb... Was the Idle stop selenoid even on that Carb ????

Yes, if you need it you need it. No reason to explain.

no offense taken, I'd rather have a numbers matching judge then the extra 4k sitting in a bank earning nothing waiting for the government to find a way to take it. I had to state my reasons to see if there were others that agreed with my reasoning - my wife thinks I'm nuts on the good side I was able to show here there are some worse than me. At least I wanted it to put on a car, others wanted it to sit on a shelf

I would have used it on my car too, if the price were right

Good to know it was a legit auction, just never know with eBay - thanks for posting here.

Bottom line is that carb is worth $4550 as proven by auction. This IS what the market bears.
I bid decent money on a gold deluxe steering wheel (NOS) for my 69, a lot more than I thought it was worth. When I lost I was so pissed!!! This was a couple of years ago and it still haunts me. I want that wheel. I would pay double what I bid and I thought what I bid was a ridiculious price!
Nicely bought and sold.

Well it's not like you're going to lose a dime on that investment ... if you keep the car for the long term, you've got the satisfaction of having a correct carb on the car; were you to eventually sell it, having the right key components, such as a carb, more than pay for themselves.

I just picked up the correct 7027262 Q-Jet for my '67 GTO to replace a '68 GTO manual tranny carb that's been on it for the 10 years I've owned. Fortunately, I got it for $150 and will pay about $550 for the rebuild/anodizing. Yes, my wife thought I was crazy, and yes, she long ago gave up trying to figure out what makes car people tick!

Default Ram Air III Carburetor

I also was watching that carb on eBay. I was watching it because I need the 7040270 which is the Ram Air III 400 Hydramatic. I wanted to see what I may have to pay at some point in my restoration process. First off, congrats to the winner. I personally can not justify paying that much for a carb regardless of being a Judge or TA. By the time I am done restoring my Judge, I won't even be able to turn a profit if I sell it. The reality is that the cars have come down 30 to 40% since 2006 and the part sellers need to start coming down on price for the restorer to justify the cost. Just like the housing bubble. Price of homes came down but vacant land did not. It took about three years after the bubble before the land came down as well.
