The notched tanks are an 1" deeper, and the notch clears larger exhausts, like 3" tailpipes:
https://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/p...rod/prd586.htm Pic attached of the warning on high volume pumps. So was swapping the 260 GPH filer for the 460 GPH filter, pulled the 260 gph, opened it up and the filter was loaded with crap. I saw crap coming out when I was draining the lines, was like WTH. I had just cleaned that filter and added fresh gas even. Long story short, the chit was coming from the station I was getting high test from. I had gone back and refilled the 5gal cans I was using even, so now I don't have a way to drain the tank without pump the crap gas thru my new pump and filter. I think I'm going to hookup the old filter and drain the tank, and just get more cans. Still won't put that gas in my car, guess I'll have a couple seasons of garden equip gas. It's still going to go thru my new pump tho. Uhg. So ate a fat steak and am drowning the blues with bourbon. .

I've seen those notched tanks for exhaust and always thought they were interesting and wondered just how big people were going with tailpipes to need that tank, lol. I run 3" past the stock setup and have plenty of room. Interesting on the warning deal, Both dad and mine have stock style A-body EFI tanks from Tanks Inc with 450 walbros in them. Actually been running them for many years even before the EFI conversion. Has always been flawless. I'm thinking at least 5-6 years with a carb and then switched to EFI 4-5 years ago. I just wish they would make a deeper version that would hold an extra 4-5 gallons like they do for the F-bodies. Wow, dirt would explain it. Dirty gas completely jammed up the pump filter? Geeez |

The notched tanks are @ 1" deeper, and in my swap experienced about an extra 3-4+ gal capacity.
I run thru the valance twin tips, but even with those, the tailpipes are very close to the frame where they cross from inside the frame to the outside. That indent in the frame is what creates an issue when you can't run the tailpipe further back along that indent, even with the 2.5" pipes. Not sure how that is pre-70 A-bodies, but it is an issue for 70-72 models. The crap in the gas clogged the 10m filter, but suspect the sock is also loaded up. I will order a new sock too, just in case. In the drain pan where I was catching fuel between the tank & 10m filter, I even saw a green tint floating on top, looked like antifreeze to me. There were also brown cloudy 'clots' of crap floating in it. Even if I get all the metal and other solid crap out, the gas is unusable. At least in my car anyway. I recently moved to a new area, and am not familiar with the stations & quality. I will have to hunt for a good station to buy premium, probably go a gallon at a time for samples and filter them and/or pour some in a jar for inspection. I will also ask some of the locals and car clubs at cruises/shows where a good station is. The area I live in is more rural than where I moved from, and I guess not many buy premium gas. The Tanks Inc GPA-8 is the Walbro 450LPH pump, but guess because of other factors is only rated at 430LPH. Maybe the fittings or something restrict flow? Dunno. But they have the GPA-9 which is listed for a 'Hellcat', rated at 450LPH. Think that's a specific pump assembly made as a 'direct fit'. .
