We are restoring a 65 GTO and when we removed the body from the frame we had to cut one of the body mount bolts completely of due to rust. Has any one ever had to repair the inner trunk support for the body mount?? I know the sheetmetal is availiable but what is the best approach? Thanks in advance.

I take it the body is off the frame.
Drill out the factory welds that hold the brace to the underside of the trunk. Once you have the replacement brace, position it where the original one was using duct tape, then loser the body back onto the frame so you can get the alignment perfect with respect to the mounts. Once in place, tack weld a few places to hold it. Raise the body back up and finish up the welding. I pre-drilled a bunch of holes in the brace, then used these holes for welding through the brace to the trunk floor. Once filled, and grinded smooth, they look like factory spot welds. Don |
