Default WANTED: Nostalgia FED or Flip Top owner...

...In WA State and/or near the Tri-City, WA, (i.e. Richland, Pasco, Kennewick), area willing to donate a little "cackle" time for the Diesel/Automotive students at the Tri-Tech Skills Center (http://www.ksd.org/tritech/). I was in the first class to go through the program back in '82-'83 and I've donated a little time there for my former teacher who is still teaching there. I would like to do something special for him and his class since he will be retiring in a couple years and the program meant a lot to me. I'm willing to chip in for some gas and buy lunch for anyone willing to show up there, within reason... I'm by no means rich. lol

Thank you for any constructive ideas or suggestions. If you don't think it's a good idea please don't get on here and flip crap. It's my idea, if you don't like it post it on your own posting please. I've been on this site more than long enough to get at least that small curtesy.

Thank you,

Scott

Default My favorite instructor

Here's the man and the program I'm looking for volunteerism for. This is Mr. Grant (with the beard) accepting a donation to the program. He was 30 and that beard was black when I took the program. A very knowledgeable man and a fine instructor that has taught kids now for 30 years.

No, never heard of them. I'll look them up. I posted on Drag RacersReunion and I asked a guy I met on Faceplant who is into the nostalgia flip top thing. He said he would ask around.

Thanks for the suggestion Jack!

Thank you for the help! If I'll keep asking and who knows...! Someone might take pity on me even! LOL

Thanks, I really don't expect a thing to come of it but what the heck, all I can do is ask. I wish I just had the cash to go buy one and the heck with it do it myself! lol I could whip out a nitro Hemi for my '65 Coronet and alter the wheelbase and I'd be able to do it! For a mere $100,000+ or so... I'll keep asking, it can't hurt!

Too bad you're not close to Dayton, OH. We do those sort of school visits all the time. Keep trying...you'll find somebody.

Try the classic funny car board. Not sure who's in WA, but it's worth a try. If you want a nitro car for some real cackle, be sensitive to the fact that the owner will burn at least $100 in fuel for a few minute warmup.

Does the school have a relationship with any vendors (like Snap-On tools, etc.) that sponsor a pro car? It will take a lot of work but you may be able to attract one of them during next year's NHRA western swing. Sponsors are always looking for good PR events.

I appreciate the input, thank you! I'm VERY sensitive to the cost of this whole thing. I know what things cost and there is no way I can pay for their time. I could pay for a couple hundred bucks in fuel for one car and some lunch for that person and their crew but not $100/min, well, for no more than a couple minutes anyway. Who ever does this would have to want to do it because the want to keep young people interested in the sport NOT because I can pay them, there's no way. I don't truly expect anyone to step up to the plate. I'm asking and that is all there is to it. Really, I'm asking would someone like to come show off for some young people and get them excited about the sport and included in that would be honoring this man that has been teaching for 30years. I do realize that you people don't know him. I love to show off my car and I can tell you they love seeing me do it! I remember what it was like and I get the same thrill I did when I cruised Columbia Park and burnt the hides off in front of everyone when I was their age. lol I've let those kids work on my car, I've donated money and time to the school... It is all relative and of course there's ALWAYS a cost to benefit ratio. Yes they have a relationship with the vendors but I would like to keep it more personal then that. I'd like to see if theres someone that just wants to drag their car out and make a bunch of young people flip their lids for the hell of it. There are people out there that can do it.

NOTE: PLEASE, if you think that is stupid, unrealistic, or otherwise silly go post it someplace else. I'm positive VOLUMES could be written about how ridiculous this whole idea is.

I think it is a great idea! As I indicated, if we were close to you, we'd do it (at our expense). Stick with the idea.

Good luck!
