I need help...

I just bought some seatbelts for my 74 due to the fact that when I bought it had a different interior in it - without the seatbelts. Basicilly it did not have any shoulder straps. I know that it was around this time that Pontiac went to a standard shoulder/lap combo that we still use.

Here's the problem - are the shoulder and lap belts connected from the factory or what? If not, how was it connected?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

mine had retractors on the floor between the sill and the seat and in the headliner just back of the door window. A belt came from each and connected to the common male end of the seat belt mechanism. There's usually a guide for the shoulder belt mounted to the upper side of the seat. I'm not a restorer so that's the most technical answer I can give you.

Thanks.

I think that I have it figured out - maybe. I talk to the guy that sold me those seat belts and he said that when he bought the car they were not connected. Mine were the same way (at least on the one side that did have belts). But, I also have a new headliner in the car. I think that they were connected originally but they cut the threads and separated the shoulder lap belt from the buckle to replace the headliner then forgot to reconnect it.

Just a guess.
Thanks again.
