Default 68 grille bezels?

Any ideas on where to buy a good, dent/ding free set of the non-hideaway headlight bezels for a reasonable price? I can’t afford nos on EBay and Franks isn’t showing any used for sale.
I have inner grille pieces, just need outers.

post an ad in the "wanted" section. bound to be a few sets sitting around in someones basement with all the hideaway conversions that go on. you're about 15 years too late on all the sets I used to have and dumped on ebay for peanuts back then!

That was my thinking but I guess it’s a supply issue like everything else now.

I’m having a hard time pulling the trigger on 400-500 for a used set of those bezels but I might be stuck.

I have purchased many sets of these headlight bezels for my cars. FYI - The last set I purchased was roughly 5 years ago and I think the price was $300.

I knew I shouldn't have, but I just looked at a spreadsheet I kept in the earlier years and had to just twist the knife in my own gut. sold a very nice set of these 68 headlight bezels along with the two headlight bucket panels and the full set of mounting brackets to hold it all on the endura on ebay in 2007 - closing auction price: $85 before fees.

I'm going to delete that spreadsheet before I get myself sick -- a few auctions down the list I only got $12.50 for a pristine 4 spd bell housing! after fees what'd I clear, a $10 bill for all the hassle along with boxing it and shipping it? It cost me $200 to fill the tank on my truck yesterday. what would I rather have in my hand right now, a good bell housing or two gallons of diesel?

Just glancing down the lists comparing current ebay prices to 15 years ago, things have gone up 10 times their old values.

That really sucks being over a barrel when you gotta have something right now
Where are you located?. Carlisle show in PA is in a few weeks, maybe some better prospects at more realistic prices.

Well my day just got worse after learning that I also need different headlight backing/housing plates for non-hideaway.

Having a non-hideaway car that came with a bumper that had all or almost all of the hideaway parts on it has made this expensive. I even bought the new vacuum hose and headlight switch for hideaway.

Oh well, I guess I am now in need of both backing plate and bezels in the near future.

Are 68 and 69 backing plates the same?

yes, the backing plates and brackets that hold them to the endura are the same.

note: lemans brackets are different, it must be an endura backing plate.

only difference are the bezels themselves.

quick eyeballing on the bezel, a 68's got a more squared off outer edge around the low beam and a 69 is rounder. main issue is the depth of where the chome bars line up to the grille trim

Ok. That’s great information. Hopefully I can find a decent deal somewhere.
My paint is done for the most part so I’m down to vinyl top and headlights on the exterior.

physically they are similar

the backing plates are stamped ,,, 68 or 69 you want 69 ones if you have a choice,,
they use a much better redesigned headlight adjuster screw base ,,,, the 69 adjusters do not fit the 68 plates
without hogging the square mount hole a bit to make it a tad more rectangle ,,, easy to do with a file and patience tho

the easiest way to tell 68 from 69 headlight bezels is 69 has notches to get to the adjuster screws ,,, 68's dont,,,

buy the screw kit the plastic square clip in nuts for the screws and new adjusters from ames also a screw kit for the stainless rings to hold the headlights in the buckets...

the L brackets from the hide away plate to the endura can swap out to the stationary ,,

pull those outside W brackets off the outer edge of the endura and keep em with the hideaways...

Here's a blowout sale on 1969 reproductions. Sounds like they are seconds but the issue is with the paint and not the chrome which can be dealt with.
