Chris,
I have the original 336 geared rear end that you bought the traction bars from.It is still available. It is a Nodular rear and very hard to find. This was Pontiac's Heavy Duty Rera end. Let me know.

you 'll have to decide either 3:23 or 3:36 because thats the cut off for 2 or 4 series carrier.

I'd recommend thenew Eaton unit as it's fully rebuildable (the Auburn isn't) and has available upgrades like carbon fiber friction material and 800# preload springs.

I was in the same boat as you guys. I have a 67 Firebird with a 2.56 non posi rear. I found a rear from a 72 Nova. Monoleaf springs. 8.5 10 bolt. I have less than $700 in the whole thing and that includes a new set of gears, bearings, shims, and a fresh posi unit. Any 68-76 Nova, Ventura, Apollo, and Omega rear will work. Plus the 8.5 is stronger than the 8.2 Just something to consider.

Bump - still looking for a posi for my 67 bird. At this point I am more interested in a 3:55, but would still be interested in a 3:36.

Thanks

I have a rear from a 68 firebird with a 4 series carrier and 3.90 gears. $375 There is nothing wrong with , I just replaced it with a 9 inch to back up the 462 motor. The 3.90 was the perfect gear for waking up the original 350 HO motor on the street. I am located in Maryland.

I am interested, but a bit worried the 3:90 gears may be a bit much for my 326 block / M20 4-speed.

I was running the rear with a 350 and a muncie 4 speed. If you put a 28 inch tire on the rear it will make the gear seem a little smaller. I run 3.90's on the street with a 28 inch tire and the rpms are around 3K at 60 mph.

I am looking to use this car for shows, stock tires and rims, etc., not so much of a performance machine.
