Picture of correctly painted steering box
Hello all,
I am looking to correctly paint the steering box for my 62 Catalina. Any pics would help! Thanks |

I believe they were unpainted originally, so to make it look new use a natural grey or cast iron color. The top cover should be unpainted use a satin clear coat to keep it nice. The bolts were silver cad plated.

Stuart - did you mean the top cover or the plug on the bottom that is held in with a snap ring? At least if it is PS, manual is somewhat different.

This is a manual box.

Sorry, I didn't see this until just now. I was thinking of a manual steering box top cover. I believe that plug on the bottom held in with the snap ring should be natural metal too.

DK if these are correct but here are steering boxes in a Jim Mott restored '61 SD car and in Paul Glasgo's '62. Both are manual boxes.
