The spoiler, from what I was told by a dealer, works best when you're at highway speeds of 40 and above. 40mph or less and it's just an ornament. This is for the spoiler like on a 79 TA or Formula. I even put the large type Camaro spoiler on my 71 Camaro. It made that car look better too. The short spoiler that was on the first gen cars didn't do much at all. And in my opinion were butt ugly.

Here is another consideration, paint the tail panel black, or paint the entire back side of the spoiler and tail panel black if you decide on a spoiler....to match the vinyl roof???
there is no right or wrong answer here, your car will look great either way. |

This:
I agree, car looks like it's missing something without the spoiler.

Ultimately, it's your car and up to you. My opinion is you have a very unique car from the factory. Silver, black top, black deluxe interior, and factory reflective side stripe car. Beautiful color combo. If you remove all the black accents, you will have another silver Firebird just like all the rest you see these days. And my vote is no on the rear spoiler. You have a great car Anthony, whatever you decide!

that car is unique. i am not a vinyl top person but like it on yours. your car seems to be pretty original. sell it and buy one with a spoiler and no top. i would be ashame to change that car after almost 50 years.

The closeness on the votes is really surprising.
So probably not much assistance towards a decision. Can say that back in HighSchool one of the toughest looking cars around was a Flat Hood 70 Firebird with a Rear Spoiler. Wide Cragar S/S wheels in back , skinny up front. Car was Black. 350 2bbl Auto but everybody thought it looked really awesome Without the spoiler , it would've looked like a squatting poodle |

either way, I agree totally with your thought of losing the dinosaur era vinyl top and molding.
I had a friend in high school that had a like new 72 formula 400 but no spoiler. I told him the car is begging for the rear spoiler, looks sissyfied without it. he agreed but never did it just because there was another friend with a same color 72 formula 455ho car with the spoiler and he didn't want to feel like a copy cat. lol both cars were that cool looking carmel color. the no spoiler car had black interior, the 455ho car had tan interior. |

This was the European performance vibe back then: Vinyl tops weren't used over there and spoilers on performance cars were the norm. As to some others comments that the look with the vinyl top and no spoiler makes it different from all the other cars - can't deny that it gives a different look. But is different more desirable? Not in my opinion - but it's not my car. |

Non spoiler cars are not nearly as common as a spoiler'd TA or Formula.
Car looks sneaky, understated with no spoiler. A plain looking 70-73 firebird is a cool car to me. Of course it needs a 455 under the hood! We still live in a free country, it's your car....
