Looks really good! What products did you use to paint the trunk?

I used trunk paint from Parts Place.
The trunk paint they previously sold years ago was water based and you had to top coat it with clear or it would just lift off if water or moisture got into the trunk
I know this for a fact because I bought this paint from them years ago when I restored my other GTO and threw it out and bought Zolatone.
The paint they sell now is the same formula as Zolatone which is not available anymore. Its petroleum based and I added a universal hardner and used a big tip so the flecks layed out evenly
From my photo it looks gray and white like the 70 and up trunks should be but its actually black/aqua as it should be. The camera flash makes the color look different
Here is a better photo without the flash on

Looking good. And, I still owe you for sending me that can of Zolatone for my 67.

Default Paint!

Well it's not exactly real paint but moving in the right direction.

Repaired the dash the radio sits in since it was hacked up
I was able to source a new piece that was unmolested. Cut and welded in the new piece.
Refinished the glove box door and ashtray face plate
Refinished the dash with low gloss black and did upper doors in a creamy white.
Been working on putting on the front and back windshield mouldings on as well as all the rest of the mouldings too so I know they fit after the car is painted and there are so surprises.
Hopefully in the next few weeks we will see real paint.

Really looking good but I have one question about the dash paint? From what I have been told the top of the dash from the pad to the windshield was painted 0% gloss or flat whichever term you prefer. Was I told wrong?

Yes they say that the top of the dash should be 0% gloss
I painted it with 30% low gloss. I painted the dash in my last GTO with low gloss too and never had a glare issue on the windshield.

Ancient Chinese secret
Actually it’s just a creamy white paint from another job my body guy had laying around.
I went to great efforts trying to match paint to the parchment swatch that Legendary sent me
When I matched the swatch perfectly it was too beige and not white at all. The original white on the car was more white so I just chose a cream white and not a bright white
I have new door panels coming soon so curious to see how it looks together

Car is now ready for paint.
I fitted up all the mouldings and emblems on the car. I am pleased with the Dynacorn quarter panels and mouldings fit great with some minor tweaking.
I Got my spray out for Tyrol Blue from my painter and waiting on him to shoot the car hopefully next week.

Dang Dominic, you move quickly! Impressive stuff. Can't wait to see the body painted. It's going to be beautiful.

Hi Dominic,
Car is looking good. What did you use for templates to locate rr qtr GTO emblems as well as the for the clips for the rocker mldgs behind rear wheels and the large ones between the wheels? I have new qtrs on mine as well.

I have found some dimensions, but it looks like you have them nailed down pretty well.

Thanks,
Matt

Matt-
The old quarters were original so I cut off the rear pieces and saved them for a template.
As far as the rear quarter extension mouldings thats easy, Just have a friend hold them in place and drill the 3 bottom holes and screw them in then pull a tape line across the top and take the moulding off and mark new clips and drill.
The rocker mouldings are easy too. There are 2 large clips at front and back. I replaced the rockers so I had to re drill a hole in the rocker near rear wheel well. Once you do that you can access the retaining nut from inside the wheelwell. The moulding attaches inside the door opening too and then under the rock there will be (2) 6" brackets that attach to moulding lip and screwed to rockers
I hope this makes sense and helps
Good luck

Here is a template for the rear. It says for a 66 but will work on a 67

Well after 8 months of extensive sheet metal replacement and body work the GTO was sent off to my painter.
I am going with Glasurit 55 line, Tyrol Blue.
I cant wait to finally start assembling with new parts when it gets back.

Thumbs up GOOD STUFF...

Great color choice.
Glad to see it all coming together and look forward to the completion.

My friends '67 TB HO.
Out of all his GTO's this one is my pick.

Cheers.
