Granville455, I buy My epoxy primers from Scott at NAPA in Chippewa falls. Great Guy
Thanks! I just bought the 05895 and 05907 online, i couldn't find anything cheap enough locally? I'm gonna give this the old college try when it gets here looking like monday? I'm just gonna grind a small groove in my cracks and fill them, I'm Not taking it all the way down, Actually i already rough sanded with 220 and primed it thinking the high build up primer would fill, didn't phase it lol. I just don't want to ruin it lol

So I grooved out a bunch of the cracks and used the 3m epoxy ,which by the way sucked! I mixed the two tubes like they said and that **** was setup so quickly , after a crapload of sanding etc I can see where I filled those cracks after priming it .I sprayed it today with a can of self etching primer and I can still see them
I bought the can of adhesion promoter too for it . I don’t know what to do, about ready to say screw it and paint it ,cars a 20 footer anyway lol

Etch primer on endura? What are you trying to etch?

The technique is well documented on this forum. Gentle media blasting followed by multiple coats of SPI epoxy.

It’s that simple and highly effective.

Sorry to hear of your frustration.

SPI Epoxy primer is all you need from start to paint. That's why I was mentioning Scott at napa in chipewa falls. He is an SPI distributor. SPI epoxy is sand-able in 24 hours, it fills small imperfections & stays flexible. Did you re-read this entire thread by chance? I guess I assumed you were going to use SPI.

I would sand off what you used so far for primers & go with SPI epoxy, but make sure you have everything removed.

It is a lot of work. I had many, many hours in my bumper, but no regrets.

Step 1....Strip down to bare
Step 2.... Smoke 2 big fat ones
Step 3.... “V” out any cracks with Dremel tool
Step 4..wipe bumper with cleaner
Step 5 ...apply 2 coats of epoxy primer
Step 6.. after 48 hours of epoxy dry time...apply SEM Bumper Bite ..to V areas
Step 7. Sand with 180.....
Step 8... roll another one
Step 9..Spray Bumper with prep solvent and look for wet spots in cracks as it evaporates...and repair as necessary.
Step 10... spray 2 more coats of epoxy
Step 11... next day apply 3-4 coats of 2k Primer
Step 12... put bumper in hot sun for a day or 2
Step 13..Smoke a fatty...and wet sand with 220 on a block .
Step 14..reprime with 3 coats of 2k primer again..let set in hot sun 2-3 days
Step 15..sand with 400 grit...and follow regular painting procedures

3M flexible epoxy repair material (or Norton equivalent) for the cracks/rash, and SPI epoxy for building & block sanding until ready to paint.

SPI is recommended because it stays flexible, other primers (including other epoxies and 2K) may not flex as well, if at all.

I sprayed the back of my Endura bumper with RM epoxy and with just a little flex it cracked everywhere I flexed it. I had primed the steel brackets and coated the rubber so not a big deal as you don't see it.

Compare to SPI...I sprayed 3 coats on the front of the Endura, and 2 days later went out to the garage...couldn't see the bumper. WTF? Then I realize it slipped off my work stand and bounced off the floor and had sat there for at least a day. Figured it would be really bad...got it back up on the stand, and aside from a few scratches, no cracks or damage to the primer.

I've got a "puck" of cured SPI epoxy that was left over in a paint cup and after 2 years it is still flexible. Can't say the same for any 2K I've tried or 2 other brands of epoxy I've used.

Also...use ONLY soap and water or a waterbourne W&G remover (like SPI 700) to clean the bare rubber. It is porous and using any solvents is asking for problems.

I’m sorry guys was frustrated earlier! So my bumper just had some cracks on it , so I grooved them out like u see in pics , then I filled with epoxy which it set up damn quick going by their directions looked like **** on it, my biggest issue right now is u can still see where I filled the cracks? I re sanded them tonight and used 3m spot putty on them n I’ll re sand tomorrow those areas . I used the etching primer cause I was told to to make the paint stick better, but maybe he meant the fender now?

^^^^^^^^^^^^ etch Primer for bare metal....not plastics or rubber. Epoxy can be used on both surfaces

Use 3m 806C for the bumper repair. Anything that sets up hard is going to cause problems. The 806-C looks just like the bare endura when it sets. You won't see a thing after sanding.

I used what was said in this thread the 3m 05895 stuff which wasn't cheap, its soft still when set up, the problem i had was u could see the line thru the primer, but that may have been me not getting it sanded down smooth enough and it was kinda a bump yet? I'm working on sanding it down further and just trying some spot putty on it, like i said its a damn 20 fter, and honestly its getting sprayed with a can they mix up at advance, so it may not even turn out, all this will be for nothing lol. I actually like how the etching feels on the bumper its smooth, not rough like a regular primer is, its on there now so its what it is i guess.

I believe it was 3M 5896. So, now is it better to use the 3M 806C? I need to tackle this soon myself.

806C is the Bondo 'consumer' version, 5896 is the 'professional' version that comes in larger packaging and costs much more.

I've used lots of both, started out with 5896 and ran out so switched to 806C since I was half way through the job and could only get that.

The 5896 sands much easier, and is what I would buy again if I had a large area or lots of small areas to repair. Nothing wrong with the 806C, just takes a bit more time to sand.

I wasn't aware of the 5896 so I'm not knocking it. I had great results with the 806C and it's available off the shelf.
Not enough sanding may have been the problem. It takes time.
