Default Dash Cam

I’m looking to buy a dash Cam for my SUV. Any suggestions on brand, what to look for, easiness of use and so forth? All suggestions welcomed.

Lots and lots of choices out there nowadays. Early on I tried some of the cheaper brands but gradually migrated to Blackvue cameras. I'm a fan of them and have them in all of my vehicles in either single front camera or front and rear combinations. They have been very reliable and easy to use.

I had a coal truck sideswipe me in PA many years ago - the driver pulled over right away so I don't think he would have claimed it was my fault BUT being able to point to the camera in my car and subsequently upload the footage to the insurance company removed any of those concerns completely.

I have a Uniden front/rear view in my Duramax. It’s been problem free for the 5 or so years I’ve owned it. I can’t think of a reason NOT to have one nowadays. They’re cheap insurance if you do need proof in an accident.

I have one, I think its a Cobra. It was about $180. Front and inside passenger view. I suppose that feature is good for someone that is doing ride shares, which I dont. I plug it in every time I start my truck. I was sideswiped for the second time within about a 1/4 on the same stretch of road. Second time I had the camera running. I did not understand what to do with it though and hit some kind of button wanting to save the footage. When I looked back at it, I had everything in clear view from the time I left my drive right up to the half second before we got hit!! That was the point I thought I hit the save button, but I erased instead!! Never did get the guy that hit us as he kept rolling on down the road!! I hate rude people.

I purchased and I stalled two of these, one for my daily driver and one for my wife’s. They were on sale at the time for about $60 on two different occasions. They’re both fancy but feature an SD card that can be removed and inserted into a computer or files can be viewed and/or downloaded using your phone.

I’m sure there are better and worse ones out there. I personally wanted something small and without a screen to be the least distracting. I have them mounted behind our rear view mirrors so the driver can’t see them and they’re only partially visible from the passenger seat. We recently traded my wife’s car for a new one and I removed the front and rear cameras at the dealership in about three minutes to install on the new vehicle later.

Admittedly these are the only ones I have any experience with.

I have had a Nextbase 222 in my truck for a few years now and have never had to use it for an incident. I plug it in when I get in the truck and forget about it, They have newer models out with more features, but for $99.00 it is all I need.

I have a Blackvue that I bought about 5 years ago. It had an issue with the image sensor in the front camera and was out of warranty, but I was sent a new one, no questions asked. The software is pretty decent and there's a lot of features you can tweak to your liking.

I bought 3 of them when they were on sale for $59.00 they work great. They were easy to set up to the smart phone. One thing I noticed about having a dash cam is it makes you a better driver because it's recording you also lol I didn't realize I talk to myself so much.

Haha. I have footage of me slamming into a buck at 65mph. I played it for me kids, and they were like “Who are you talking to?” Myself!
