Steve is a smart guy, sure can push the limits for street engines.

Well, if Steve Morris says they are nice parts he will do something great with them.
But as it stands Pontiac HP records are still in the hands of inline valve traditional Pontiac style heads. Maybe that will change. Not sure where to put the latest AP heads. don't they have staggered "sort of" inline valves ? |

Noticed roller bearing cam bearings. I'm wondering how many are using them? Just curious as some roller lifters seemingly having problems.

Very cool build. It would be great if he developed one of his billet EFI intakes for a traditional Pontiac. He probably wouldn’t sell a lot of them though. At first glance it seems pricey but you’d be surprised how quickly things add up with the cost of a cast intake with porting plus the EFI conversion and parts. Plus if you add in a good intake elbow and linkage you are easily half way there price wise and you don’t get the ease of having everything go together with o-rings. Just my $.02
Also, are gear drives making a comeback? I thought they delivered unwanted harmonics to the valvetrain? At least that’s what I read many years ago. Again, cool stuff in these builds

Its great someone like Morris is doing 2 builds on our old engines. 40 minutes in so far. Seems like a cool guy and just luvs engines like most of us.
Few things. gear drive and Scorpions ? Kind of a no no around here. I kicked around the idea of a gear drive but went with a chain. The studs, he seemed to bottom them out with power tools ? Did I see that right ? Has Molnar rods on a big power build, nice. Learned about pin buttons today. |

I would like to know from our experienced engine builders here that it is a proven fact that gear drives and roller cams don t mix? I personally have used a Milodon drive for some years and have never had such an issue. If somone would, I would appreciate the feed back, thank you.

Okay I'm forty minutes in.
Odd combination of parts on the blow through engine. You can see they lack enthusiasm in regards to the Pontiac builds. Steve is a sharp guy. I don't understand the choice of gear drives but I doubt they were made by SM. |

Somewhere in the video it is stated that Rich Liles wanted the gear drive and for Steve to set it up. Which it tuned out was not just simply bolting it on. Stan

Thanks Stan, I'm sure I'll get to that part. Milodon makes the only serious effort gear drive for a Pontiac (that I'm aware of) it definitely requires machining to install it. I can kinda understand why Rich might think that the gear drive is a good choice. That other build seems to be plagued with poor decisions.

Hour in.
That is sure a lot of jacking around to get that gear drive to work. Other build. You would think someone would know about Scorps and their cracking issues. The stud girdle is a cheap PRW deal. No one told anyone the High Ports have valves that have been moved ? The customer should know that you would think . I have a extra High Port stud girdle laying around after I went with Crower shafts. He could probably get some extra thick valve cover gaskets from BOP and make those billet valve covers work. KRE solid billet blocks have aluminum caps ? Is that what I heard ? Never knew. Anyway, glad one of the best engine builders around is building Pontiac's. And he started out a Pontiac guy to boot ! |
