Default Safety Razor

I have a couple of friends that have switched to old school safety razors and love them. I've been a Trac II user since I started shaving 40 years ago. My original handle is in my travel bag and I use my newer handle (20 years old?) at home. I buy the blades in quantity (online) but they are still crazy money. I'm considering trying a safety razor. Anybody on here use one?

Not since I started shaving (1976?). Those things always scared me a little. I'm happy with Harry's.

My friend Tony says the same thing....look for an old one. He said that some of them carry a date code. Another guy is very happy with a handle that Walmart sells for about $20.
With really good blades for only pennies each the math works well.

I use my dad's old one. It's probably from the early 1950s.

When I don't have the time....I shave with a birth year 1956 Gillette SS Red Tip. But 99 % of the time ,Iam old school with a Straight Razor....have about 35 straights..my oldest dates back to 1840 and my newest is a Wacker 1/4 hollow with blond horn scales 2007, and it's a fine German Shaver too. But you can't beat the older ones. I have some for sale too.

Doc's orders. With the blood thinners after the heart valve replacement, they do not want me going anywhere near a razor. Electric shaver for me.

Strange, cause I was just thinking of trying a safety razor.

I started with disposable bics, then I went to a Mach 3, which is entirely to expensive. I tried to go back to a disposable, and it was just torture.

im not one of those guys who has to shave every day, but still, this Mach 3 thing can't go on.

I have wahl clippers I cut my hair with, which I have been doing for over a decade. My haircut budget is a fraction of what my shaving cost is - and that's just wrong.

I got tired of paying way too much for Gillette Sensor products so I bought a Merkur brand razor on Amazon, along with a 100 pack of Personna brand razor blades.

Great shave for way less money than the over priced drug store stuff. Better than Harry's or the Dollar Shave club stuff IMHO
Each blade lasts for about 4-5 shaves

Fancy shave creams are a waste too. They are often over-perfumed and take too long to apply with that gimmicky boar hair or whatever brush . Gimme some plain 'ol Barbasol

Get your self a Badger Hair Brush and a tub of Cella shave soap and throw away that can of Goo. Your Hollywood face will thank you for it.

I have the one my dad gave me 55 years ago plus I have several of his old ones. I have tried disposables but never liked them. My son saw the old ones from his grandfather and started using one and now that's all he uses. I'm lucky my dad left me about 50 unopened packages of blades. All are in good condition.

I'm lucky ... at 58 I can use a Mach III for about a month .... couldn't grow a beard until I was about 40. However I could grow a killer Tom Sellek mustache at 20.

Recently I just gave up and grew a beard, the more of my face I cover up, the better I look

I gave up on the Mach III ...... just way too much money.

I tried the straight razor, and could not master it. But what I did pick up on was my choice of shaving cream....

I now use a brush and Taylor of Bond shaving cream, much nicer shave and a tub lasts me like 6 months...

As far as razors.... I went to Dorco razors, they supply most of the products for Dollar Shave Club, so you cut out the middle man.... very cost effective..

I had a thought last night (thought? Kinda odd for me....), my father in law passed away about 3-4 years ago and he used a safety razor. I'm going to check with my sister in law, who lives in Papa's old house, and see if she kept his shaving stuff.

I use a 1960s version of the Gillette safety razor shown above. I bought it at a garage sale cheap. Works great with blades from CVS pharmacy and are cheap compared to multi-blades.

I also have a few straight razors from garage sales or antique shops but haven't used them. bt
