How hot is too HOT !?
Using a temp gauge on a multimeter the cam tower is 178 t idle and the fuel inlet pipe is 160.
What temps are these things supposed to run at? I do not know which thermo is in the car and the last time it was flushed is anybody's guess. Is there an ideal temp that the OHC is supposed to run at? |

Those temps don't seem that bad. These engines do put off some heat.
I think the 250c/i used a 190 Stat. When in doubt flush it out! This is the only way to be sure of what you have and the condition of the coolant. I run my ’66 on the interstate around 65/70 @ 2k and she’ll get up to 180/185 BDQ but will hold that all day long.

The rule I use for my cars is a 195*F thermostat first, and if I am having trouble with pinging/detonation I go down to a 180*F thermostat (assuming the ignition and fuel tune is good). I flat refuse to run a 160*F and will figure out what mechanical or tune changes are needed to run at least 180*F.

Hey guys, "Tip of the day" for you.
To make the degree mark on a PC, hold the Alt key down while you key in 0176. Like this, 180° Charles |

Welll then it seems that it is in normal range. I will look up which degree stat was used to double cjheck. What type and brand of coolant are you guys using? I have to flush it to make sure things are okay and clean then to put new fluid in. |
