Exhaust System "J" Pipe Retro-fit
Hello All
I plan on trying a "J" Pipe Installation/Retro-fit on my 69 Tempest Sprint, maybe in a month or so to try and tune out the Drone noise from the exhaust system. I plan on installing a hotter cam (290*), higher compression pistons (12.5), free flowing "Y" pipe and exhaust system. I thought about using a resonator, but it is not TUNEABLE, where-as the "J" pipe can be made to be infinitely adjustable, allowing one to try and get rid of or tune-out/cancel out the frequencies that are causing the Drone noise. Has anyone done any experimenting with this/it? If so, where did you install it, I have been searching the web and it seems that allot of them are installed at the rear, under the car by the rear bumper area. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Take Care, Dusty |

There is another thread about drone in the exhaust section and while doing some research I found out that Pontiac used their own version of a J pipe on the GTOs in 68, and it was attached to only one tailpipe under the rear of the quarter panel just ahead of the bumper.
