I am looking for an aftermarket aluminum radiator for my 79 GP. I've been looking at the 31x19 Griffin and Summit universal radiators. They look like they would fit, but I wanted to check before I order one. Has anyone here used one of these radiators (or a similar one) in a Grand Prix? Did it fit ok?

Thanks!

I bought a Modine radiator to fit a 1978 Firebird with the 400 engine and auto trans from Advance Auto Parts. I had to notch a very small spot on the top of the radiator support and it fit right in my 1978 LeMans. I hope this helps. Maurice

I have a 80 GP and had rad shop do a 4 core into it. No cooling problems. Where do you leave ?
And what is done to that 400 that it needs the aluminum rad ?

I guess I was the guinea pig on this one, so I may as well post my results in case anyone else is ever looking for this info.

I purchased and installed a Summit 31x19 aluminum radiator. Dropped right in with no problems. The stock Pontiac upper and lower hoses even fit fine. The lower shroud went on without problems, however the upper shroud will not fit without modification.

pontiyak: This is a restoration project! It did not have a radiator, so I needed to make the purchase regardless. Summit aluminum was the same price as the stock replacement 3 core. 400 is .020 over, zero deck, with a Crane 222/234@.050 cam and 89cc iron heads. For the same price, I'd rather have the aluminum rad.
