You don't need an adaptor, you have the wrong sender. On a second note there should be a number stamped on the sender about where the wrench goes, a "60" or an "80". It should match the highest number on your gauge.

You know you have to remove that plug - and then the oil sender goes where the plug is, right?

Looks like someone drilled the oil filter adapter to 1/4 NPT. Just go get a 1/4 NPT to 1/8 NPT bushing and install the sender.

1/8 inch NPT is the size of your oil filter adapter and there are senders out there with the 1/8" thread. You can certainly use the the brass adapter shown but introduce one more place for potential leak plus extend the sender for potential clearance issues. You can also get brass fittings to change direction like 45* and 90*.
If the highest number on your gauge is 80 then that will work.
