I remember that article well. I always wondered where that cutaway engine ever wound up.

1974 SD-455 HD Battery
Time for a new battery for my SD Formula. My PHS shows: Battery-HD 10.00 UA1, which I believe is the Delco R89W with side terminals. I Would like to replace the battery with one that is correct looking and has the latest technology. Is the Delco R89W $285 from Restoration Battery the latest & greatest? Thanks!

Correct brake proportioning valve '73 SD
Hello,
I was wondering if this is the correct brake proportioning valve for a '73 4-speed SD. I am installing the correct master here shortly and was hoping I didn't need to mess with this... Thanks in advance for your help. CLW *sorry that first picture is upside down, I couldn't figure out how to flip it.

No, it is not. Here are some photos of the proportioning valve on my 19,000 mile 73 SD.
I actually had to remove it yesterday to send it off to Whitepost to be rebuilt. It froze up on the first drive of the year and wouldn't allow the rear brakes to release. I had to crack the bleeder screws to release the rear wheel cylinders. Not fun! |

SD Resto re-start
FYI SD Guys, I am re-starting the restoration of my 74 SD Formula with professional assistance this time. I have started posting pictures & asking questions on the 74-76 Firebird & TA TECH Category of this site. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer. Thanks!

Re: 1973-1974 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty 455 book
Had a chance to read thru it. Writing may be a little "wordy" for some average readers, forcing them to find a dictionary or use an online definition decoder. Lots of good pictures, so thanks to all to contributed to that. One glaring error that I saw was on decoding the distributor. 3 A 4 is Year/Month/Day (1973, January 4th). Appendix E has paperwork trail, but didn't have any PHS copies. I wonder if there was a conflict with it being shown?!? As a matter of fact, I don't believe I read about any online service to help authenticate a car, other than seeking out the SD-community/owners. |

1973-74 SD book
Good read, lots of good, clear pics in it, the info is also well done.
very good book for someone looking to get the real facts and info on the SD 455 cars, as we all know, there's still lots of myths and misinformation out there about them, even now 40 plus years later. am going to get some of their other series too. Amazon has them for 15 bucks or so. |

A lot of guys use the toppers. I have gone one step further with them to improve their appearance. The caps that come with them are not all that authentic looking. Original caps are pretty easy to find. I also reproduced the Danger decal correct for '73-'77 era Delcos. Late '73-up used the charcoal flame arrestor caps. Early to mid '73 still used the vented caps with the eye. On my '77, I cut the top off an original R89WP and converted it to a topper. It's dated for 1977.

I think dealer was Kline spl may be wrong.Dealer reduced price couple times to get rid off them.cry cry cry.he said last price he thought was 1k.I'll probably see him at Norwalk, more parts trading with him.

I was talking to one of my own childhood neighbors in Connecticut a few weeks ago and he mentioned that years back he had a 1974 SD455 T/A. It was Admiralty Blue with a red interior! He got T-boned at an intersection and he sold the engine off to someone down south and sold the body to a guy in Connecticut who ended up fixing the car for his daughter.
This was the only photo he had. |

I wonder if this is the SD that was in NH without the correct motor that a board member on here now has? I went and looked at it in southern NH, Blue/Red auto SD one of the few I have ever seen. We did not get together on price as other than the vin # the expensive stuff was gone.
