I have been working with Hedman to get a 1&3/4 street header for the 67-69 firebird cars in round port configuration that will work with a power steering gear box so you don't have to switch to the manual box. Well i received my headers from them & the drivers side fits great you don't even have to remove the starter. The passengers side header requires the use of the angled oil filter housing & you can't remove the header from the car unless you take the oil filter housing off but other than that they fit great. I have pics of the headers if anyone is in interested just email nighthaw2k@hotmail.com.I don't know when they will be avail but i will let you know after i talk with Hedman.

Fantastic, now if you can get them to make a round port header for the 78-87 G body…. 1 7/8-2”

Scott, I had a terrible time with my Hedman roundport Hedmans for second Gen bird and fit. BOTH sides the rear tube hit the firewall, both sides the flange had a 1/4" gap from being flat.Maybe you've got better cloat than I do with them.

When I sent them back to Hedman they told me I must have set the motor back to hit the firewall! They fit their jig so it was my problem. Some mandrel bends, a hack saw and a welder got them to fit great and easy bolt access. After cutting off the tubes interferring I used paper towel tubes to mock up how the new ones should go. They wouldn't even make those changes for extra money! I had to do it myself. They didn't even want to see the end product in pictures.

I cut each tube separate so the flange could pull flatter. That was also within their specs.

The change to 1 3/4 for 2" was definitley worth it though.

Skip i have the 70-81 headers on my car now & they fit fine i had to switch to a manual gear box but other than that they fit. The only problem i had was the collector on the drivers side did't sit low enough. What i wanted was a header that would work with the power steering gear box so you wouldn't have to go out & find a manual box. I am going to send Hot Rod the drivers side header that i have for the 70-81 & we will see if it does what it did on your car.

Scott, my 2" headers on the passenger side, the back tube wraps around the frame rail and I have no problem with the oil filter housing. Do these go on the outside of the frame rail also? If not maybe they could fix the clearance problem by doing that. Just a thought.

Larry, You are on to something...

There seems to be this HUGE GAPING hole out there in header builder land. NO A/C, 2" primaries, & manual steering is not what a bunch of us need or want! There are various brands of 2" primary headers out there for the more popular chassis, yet everytime I see a "me too" design, I have to really wonder...

I bet we the Pontiac consumer see mass produced 2 1/8" primary headers before we see 1 7/8" rndport (or D-port) headers for 68-72 A-body or '70-81 F-body's that fit with P/S, M/T, & A/C.

OPH, correctomundo!

I'm not real happy w/ Nunzi right now. It's been 6 months since I got his catalog and still haven't received the infamous price sheet?
I've called and talked to him & I believe his wife, & still no sheet?
I know he is one of, if not THE oldest Poncho guru we have, but damn that's not what I expect in customer sevice. Esspecially if your paying for the catalog.

The passengers side header does not go around the frame & you don't have to cut the flange. I don't think they are to interested in re-designing the passengers side since the drivers side was the main problem. I will talk with them & see. I agree there needs to be more street type headers in the round port design. That was my whole problem when i went to Hedman about this i knew i only needed 1&3/4 pipes but no-one offered it & i told them they could sell more headers & Edelbrock would sell more heads if the street car guy could get a nice set of street/strip headers.

Scott,
I've installed the Hedman rnd port 67-69 Bird headers you speak of...at least the rh side. I believe it's same as Hedman's 2nd Gen F-body rh side. Do they hang fairly low?

Have you picked a cam type & profile yet?

Hedman does not list a round port header for a 67-69 bird in 1&3/4 only 70-81. The passengers side header i am using is the 70-81 header & it sits just right & the drivers side header is a new design to fit with a power steering gear box & it sits nice not to high & not to low. Send me an email & i will send you some pics. nighthaw2k@hotmail.com. The only thing i'm not sure about is if it will work with a 4 speed it appears it will but i sold my z-bar so i cannot check it.

I have been reading all the posts on headers. I wish there was something that would fit decent for my 71 T/A 4 speed. It sounds like there isn't a manufacturer that makes a decent setup for this roundport head.

Sorry I can't comment about any headers and a stick as I 'm running an auto.

Scott the passenger side hit the firewall and A/C box. They also had the oil filter go between tubes , not anymore. Its easy enough to change them not to and even get better access to the bolts without custom making a wrench like I did with my Hookers. I'll see if I can scanin some pictures of them. they actually are off the car and could be sent to Hedman to build a new jig if they were interested. The collectors did point a little funny also and I straightned them out also.

I do think most manufacturers are missing the boat with the size headers they offer. Most of Hookers round ports are 2". I think a 1 7/8 would get most of the street and strip crowd. Dave Sober, and Steve Coombs both were running 10s with 1 7/8".
