Shop to Weld repair crack in Cast Iron Exhaust Manifold in NJ/NY/PA area?
Hello Guys, just bead blasted my Pass side exhaust manifold (original to car), and found a crack. I’m looking to have it repaired. Looking for a shop somewhat local so I can drop off myself (no shipping)? Second question is how much should I expect to pay for the repair?

This a R/A manifold? If so, some areas will re crack.
To weld cast Iron, first it must be heated up a lot, holes drilled at each end, and a "V" in the actual crack. If its Not a R/A manifold, you may be able to find a nice replacement. I have charged $100 for a correct small crack repair, more for bigger and more complicated. I would assume a Engine rebuild shop could handle this.

Yes 455HO or RA IV manifold. I will ask local machine shops. Thanks for the ballpark on price, so I know what I’m looking at.

You find a competent welder to do it for 100 I’d say you should jump on it before he changes his mind.

Google "furnace welding" or cast iron welding in your area.
Might have to go abroad and search further out. There is usually a shop in most states that repairs cracked blocks or cracked heads. After furnace welding you might need to resurface the manifold gasket flanges to get re-trued. Might as well do them both if they are off the car. |
