Default Bigger Carb question?

I have an opportunity to buy a bigger carb, 1150 Dominator, but dont know if I need it for my combo. Maybe the 535 in building but dont know about my current. I currently have a 1050 Dominator on it. I used the calculator on Wallance Web site but it just says between 800 and 1120 cfm. Anyone tried this on a 650hp engine?

No, The 1050 has been gone through by Shaker. Converted to 2 circuit. Not sure what all adjustments he made to air bleeds etc...but nothing to make iflt any bigger as far as com. The 1150 I believe to be just stock. Previously ran so jetting will be whatever the previous owner used.

My experience suggests that an 1150 would be too big. I ran a 1050 on combos up to 750hp. Sometimes a bigger carb will put up nice dyno numbers but be a dog on the track. If you have the opportunity I would go to the track on a test day and run an A-B-A test.

Out of the box 1050 vs. 1150 I think you would slow down slightly. I'm assuming both carbs have the same boosters. Fwiw usually you can get the next tenth and a solid mph with a combination like yours but it takes a good 1150. I hope knowing the difference might help you sort things out.

Scott,
One way to see what your engine thinks about your current carb size is to I hook a vacuum gauge to your intake manifold and video it during your runs the next time you go to the track.

That's a great idea. I forgot about doing that.

Scott,
As Stan & Ken mentioned testing @ the track will be key.
I did a lot of this racing & tuning @ the track especially with my Ford guy's when they were running 521's CI .
A factory 1050 vs factory 1150 main body is 1/8" bigger in venturi. 1-11/16" (1.687") vs 1-13/16" (1.812")
I had made a custom 1050 @ one point with a few added features that enhanced flow and it out performed my favorite 1150.
So even I was a bit surprised...
Jeff
