Smaller diameter Temperature sending unit.
I like the idea of the block off plate modification to accept the temp. Sending
Unit. Can anyone advise if a smaller than stock Diameter sending unit For the rally gauge Could be used and would It produce accurate readings ?.... Thanks in advance. |

I just saw this today. I'll try to get a photo of my set up in the next few days.

lucky1, I assume the Temp Sender is calibrated to provide a voltage signal to the Gauge and the Gauge “reads” that voltage as a particular Temp indicated by the movement of the indicator needle across the Gauge face. The size of the sender wouldn’t matter, what matters is that the sender outputs the correct voltage for a given sensed temp. I have no idea if all Temp senders operate in the same range or if you need to choose a particular Sender that matches the Gauge. Maybe somebody else has that answer. I suspect you could also bench test the sender and gauge to check accuracy at a range of known water temps. I’m guessing you just need a Sender for Gauges vs one that is for an idiot light. But I’m just guessing.

Here's how I addressed the dual oil pressure indicators. You can see the stock sending unit on the top, the bottom line feeds the mechanical gauge.
