Default Port Matching? Worth it?

Hello all, Recently I purchased a Torker 2 and was gonna take off the performer rpm since my 455 was dynoed with a victor I figured a single plane with a 1 inch spacer would be close to that. The victor would not fit under a stock 69 firebird 400 hood? So I was gonna port match it before I put it on. Is this worth it? Anyone see any real gains? Any further thoughts?

Not enough info--What type of heads? Have they been ported?
Porting the intake to match the head ports is definitely worth it. You may want to look into a Northwind intake as I believe they are lower than the Victor but perform close to the same. T2 is a decent intake but you will loose quite a bit of power over the Victor.

Yez.

Helps acceleration more than the "static HP" numbers delta would indicate.

As already alluded to the height of the cylinder heads ports can factor in. Example note the comments here:

How To Make A Perfect Match (Gasket That Is)......

http://www.arkansaspontiacs.org/tech...asketmatch.pdf

"Think of it this way; smoothing the air transition from the intake to the cylinder heads offers consistent airspeed and flow. The smaller the runner the faster the air, however, when it hits the larger port, it tends to slow down the airspeed and can ruin the fuel mixture. This can also cause potential tuning issues and more importantly, a lack of peak horsepower."

The top of the ports are more important than the bottom.Tom

Port match it to the intake manifold rather than a gasket (use machinist dye). Focus on the top and sides, and not the bottom.

What size are the ports in your heads? There may not be enough material on the T2 for a port match if the ports are 2.3" or more.

What kind of HP did the engine make on the dyno? What are your goals? I ran a T2 with a 1" spacer then switched to a Northwind with 3/8" spacer (all that would fit under my 400 hood) and noticed no improvement in seat of the pants feel or track times. I then switched to a cowl hood and 2" tapered spacer with the Northwind and it picked up significantly at the track.

Yes, just follow the drawing. An inward facing step at the top or top corners will disrupt and hurt performance. Many OE's intentionally mismatched the floor of the intake to push the mixture up and help it turn in low RPM, high turbulence designs. The most radical I have seen was the "crossfire injection" GM used in the early 1980's. The mismatch was an intentional 3/8"-1/2" at the bottom of the port. Made excellent torque from idle to 4000 RPM's. That was the intended power range. It was done flowing at 4800 RPM. Just make sure you are matched and smooth at the top and top corners.

On the above drawing Machine the intake and you get a good match top and bottom

I know this is a porting discussion but a take away on the all alum engine article might be that the torker 2 outperformed the Victor all the way up the RPM range. This on a 650HP engine.

I would take a T2 over a RPM any day of the week. My Tomahawk runs very well. Not into duel planes.

Thanks guys. The heads have a street port to them. The intake has/ had no work at all. Dynoed 520 hp. Man it’s a pain typing on a phone. Powers been out.
