Need some help from you GTO guys. I'm helping my friend get his 67 going. We are getting close. Attempted to fire it off and break the cam this evening. he tried to get out cheap and re-use his old fuel pump. No cigar, didn't pump a drop. Want to know from you guys for sure if the 67 model uses the pump with the vapor return. That's what he has and was that way before we started rebuilding the his car. Also, not worried about correct numbers or any of that, just need a source for the pump that will work. His current pump has the steel inverted flare connection (pump to carb line) on the bottom with the supply & vapor return on the side.

Anybody got a part number and an easy place to get another one _Advance, O'reilly's , Auto Zone. The kids at these places aren't much help, even though they try.

Just replaced the fuel pump on my 67 GTO yesterday. Spent over a week getting the right one . 67 was a transition year using a 2 connection early in the year, then a 3 connector one sometime later in the year. I needed the 2 connection one. Autozone said they had it, then later refunded my money as they really didn’t. I used autozone on-line. Ended up getting an early one from NAPA, although they had to have it shipped in ($14 extra) It was the correct one with both fittings headed in the right direction making installation easy.
Now, after saying all that... are you sure the fuel pump eccentric is installed and correctly......just a thought....

That very thing crossed my mind about the eccentric. Local machine shop guy built the engine for him. Many things left to for us to sort out. Don't even know if he installed hardened seats or not in the heads, not sure of compression ratio among other guesswork. I can only hope he installed the eccentric at all (LOL).

Here's a pic of one like what he has on his car. Turns out this is a pump for a '68 400.

It's a CARTER M4885. Think I'll tell him he didn't have the right one anyway and to buy this one. What do you think?

Mine is a 67 and I use the pump from our host, Ames performance, part #N128RD High performance pump. Mine has the fuel in, fuel out and vapor return line. Only thing I had to do when I got the pump was to unbolt the main body and rotate it one or two bolt holes to get the inlet and outlet connections to line up. Been on the car for 10+ years and working great.

Non A/C cars came without a vapor return line and A/C cars had the return. Same specs except for the extra nipple on the bottom. Here are the Airtex numbers that should be available from most retailers for a 1967 GTO:

Airtex 40521 is without the vapor return
Airtex 40610 has it.

Also check the rubber fuel line back at the tank and make sure it is still good.

Thanks to everybody for all your great information. This car has been completely took apart and all new everything. Did learn a valuable lesson while helping my friend. Put all the fuel lines and brake lines in PRIOR to landing the body back on the frame. LOL. It wasn't easy, but we got it done.. Thanks again for the help guys.

Yes...I crawled under and checked, the eccentric is in there, whew. Just a bad pump. I hope.

Gonna rig me up a seal on the tank filler pipe, add a little air (1/2 lb or so) to it and see if any gas will come out the supply from the tank. It's got 10 gallons of 93 octane 100% gas in it, but not a drop made it to the pump when he took it off today. Makes me wonder, I figured it would gravity flow to the pump with that much in there.

Unless the car is jacked up, gravity should cause gas to almost pour out of the feed tube. I know I sure got wet when I pulled the rubber feed on mine. I had to put a bolt in it and bend it up to keep it from draining. Perhaps the sock is plugged and everything else is ok. Old guy trick... take off gas cap, blow into feed line to clear crap off sock. Sometimes that works for a long time, other times, not so much. Doesn't cost much to try.... Bill
