Default Florida Pontiac Show.

Hey John, glad you're coming up to see us. The show will be held on Centre St, Fernandina Beach, Fl. 32034. We have 63 cars already preregistered. If the weather holds, I think we're going to hit 100 Pontiacs! Make sure you find me and say hi! I look forward to meeting you.

Centre Street is the main drag through the downtown historic district. The street will be closed off. Plenty of shady parking areas under the trees. Be aware that some trees are dropping acorns this time of year, so if your car is pristine, you may choose a spot that's not in danger of being bombarded!

Gary,

I will be there (3 hour drive from ECFL). I was just in Fernandina Beach a couple of weeks ago. I will be bringing the 69 Firebird.

I know all about the acorn/oak tree scenario. I have 2 very large trees over my driveway and have had the squirrels "shred" small branches feeding on the acorns. I think they drop more than they keep. The acorns literally "ping" off my daily drivers and bounce all the way into the garage! The trees are beautiful but make such a mess this time of year.

The weather looks great and I am looking forward to it.

Default Florida Pontiac Show

Well, we had a great show! 102 Pontiacs and one GMC registered for the show. Had 2 73' and 1 74' SD Trans Am's. Had Ted's RA II 68' Bird at the show, as well as a lot of other beautiful and rare cars.

Next year i hope to have better "luck" getting to the show. I left the house at 5 am towing my red 69 Firebird (street/strip car) to the show about 200 miles away. Pulled over around St Augustine for a quick breakfast. My F250 diesel would not start. Spent better part of an hour checking fuses/relays and fuel filter. One last attempt and it started like normal and ran fine. Figured it might be a wire or fuse loose?

Drove another 75 miles and was exiting I -295 when the truck just died like I had turned off the ignition. Coasted into a McDonalds entrance (no fun turning or stopping pulling a car trailer and no power). Spent another hour till I finally got someone to help me push truck and trailer into a parking spot. Unloaded Firebird and drove it the rest of the way (maybe 15 to 20 miles?). Got to the show at 11:30 and quickly wiped the car down. Made a few calls to the local Ford Dealer to set up diagnosis. Called a fellow POCI buddy in my town and asked to borrow his H2. The wife drove the 3 hours up with the grandson. I had to leave the show around 3 pm to meet them back at the truck. I did get to see a lot of nice cars and wished things had been different so I could have met more people.

Loaded up Firebird on trailer and towed it back home with the H2. Had truck towed to Paul Clark Ford. Got the call yesterday and they were asking what happened. Today they said the HPOP failed. I am aware that they do that and when they do it is exactly what happened to me. The 6.0 uses oil pressure to energize the injectors. It takes 500 psi (not a typo) just to start the truck. They replaced IPC and IPR just to make sure but still only got about 125 psi. The engine has two oil pumps. Th LPOP is the standard engine pump and supplies oil to the HPOP that then boosts the pressure to 500 psi. The repair bill is going to be around $2,300. I researched the cost and that is not a bad price for that repair.

It gets better. My sons 2007 GMC Sierra had the transmission go out this weekend too. Could be anywhere from $800 to $2,500 depending on the damage.

Not a good week for me.

Sorry about the bad luck, but I admire the determination to get to the show. Gary, next year we need to have a "Hard Luck" trophy.
