Default Who knows anything about 69 Birds with Real RamAir Induction ?

Here is a link to one that recently sold here on PY https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=865889

Induction looks like 1968 stuff
Is that correct for 1969 also ?

How many Ram3 Induction 69 Birds were built ?

No 611, Hood Ram Air Inlet. 731, Air Cleaner, Heavy Duty is like a regular Firebird 4-bbl air cleaner with a dual stage filter.
348 is the RA engine though.

It was an interesting car. With the invoice credits the ram air cleaner was prob a dealer add on. The hand written clerical notes + and - tells some of the story.

That turns off the hot water going to the heater core in summer.
Some of us gearheads growing up would bypass the heater core in summer too keep inside the car cooler.

It is an odd invoice , and an odd credit memo.

It was likely one of the first built "WQ engined , 348 , HO , RA" cars in the 69 model year.
Maybe that is why it has the invoice blurb R/A .
The GTO wasn't available with WS Ram3 engine until this same time period in Oct 68.

Could you tell me what the credit memo says ? Can't read it all.

-348 , +345 _ _ _ 556 (?) _ _ _ _ _ 11/16/68
CMD 202300 11/16/68

I found 3 invoices for #348 engine cars and none had Saf-T-Trac
Was a posi rear part of #348 option ?
One of them even has Performance Axle Ratio option listed ,,, but no Posi listed . (?)

Here is another Oct 68 #348 car listing it as R/A
Found a July 69 #348 car listing it as HO

Seems like I am starting to remember this ordeal from other threads in the past.
Except I don't understand the Posi dilemma yet.

The HO option was called RA on the invoice up until December of 1968. After that it had the HO call out.

Thank you for your info about the car 1qikta .

Do you know if the car had a Posi rear ?
The other 2 (automatics) I posted invoices for both claimed to have Posi rears.

I wonder if the 345 is supposed to be 354?
(354 is 4 speed close ratio tranny, 345 is 428 HO)

I also thought it looked like 348 & 345 ...

1qikta, is the block date code G178?

The original rear end was gone. The owner had upgraded to an 8.5 10 bolt with traction bars, the car had a lot of drag racing evidence.

Intake H138

345 is the Firebird 400 option. You had to order that to also order the 348. I don't know what else would be added to equal the total price. WQ is the 348 (400/4 speed) engine code.

Has anyone ever owned a documented 69 Bird Ram3 with Functional RamAir that was a well kept complete car ?
I have never seen one.
Production must be as low - or lower - than Ram4 Birds

Rotella’s book claims that L74 production was 1,509 units for all 1969 Firebirds. 642 units were installed in T/As, leaving 867 units. The T42 (611) option was installed in 877 cars. 102 L67 equipped Firebirds (non-T/A) received the T42 as included. That leaves 775 units to be accounted for. If the T/A hood inlet system counts as a T42, that leaves 78 L74-T42 cars produced. The remaining 789 were L74 H/O cars.

Default 69 611ra inlet

Tim Smolinski had a black fairly original ra3 611 code car. Was black on black he had it for sale recently. Looked like a very nice car. I owned a white 611 ra inlet car in 2006 or 2007 but it was very rough and all of the ram parts were gone except the original hood. The earliest 611 car documented so far was built in march of 1969. There are several RA IV birds built in late February including mine. Looks like there may have been a few ra IV cars built before the first production ra 3 or 611 ra inlet car. The 611 Ram air inlet package was delayed and was not available to order until Jan. 21, 1969 per an intercompany memo sent out to dealers. There were two other memos announcing the 611 was available to order one in November and one in December but they were both canceled with an additional memo. I know the Jan 21st, memo was good as I have the hand written order form for my Ram air IV and it was ordered on Jan. 22nd on a rush sold order. Sorry for the long post there are pictures of the 611 memos in Rockys book.
