Default '78 Trans Am - For Sale at an Audi Dealer

Had to share this one with you guys on the 77-81 forum as this car is at a dealer I pass by everyday. '78 Gold T/A claimed to have 10k miles on it since new, looks to be a Pontiac 400 from the VIN and the core support sticker. Seems like a nice car if it is what it appears to be and has documents to back up the mileage.

Well, those tires are originals, since they are not reproduced. Just by looking at the photos, I would believe the mileage claim.

if anyone wants me to look at it for them I'd be glad to. It's literally 3-4 miles from my home and I pass right by it going to and from work daily. They were asking $23k just a couple of days ago so it sounds like they are getting reasonable.

No t-tops or A/C. Is that rust flaking off the bottom of the rear quarters?
Bit of mold forming on the back seats.
Would be a nice starting point, but hard to tear into such a low mileage car.
Would rather preserve the originality.

Cars are machines that need to be exercised. For a car that old, 10k miles may be more harm than good. But it does seem pretty decent and the price doesn't seem all that bad. Being that its at a new car dealer someone with a pocket of cash might get a pretty good deal.

I didn't see the detail pics of this car, but I had a jetta at one time with cloth seats that had gotten rather moldy from sitting in a barn. I scrubbed everything with something like mold-x that I got at the grocery store. I let the car air out over a few weeks, then had to use some deodorizer. In the end it came out great with no odor, and it was REALLY bad. Mold on the entire interior.

Yes they did. Unfortunately, most guys swap them out with cookie cutter 8". I prefer the 7" solely from an appearance perspective.

This is a very basic 1978- standard interior, no A/C, base 180HP 400..but at least it's a Pontiac powered!

Yes, especially since they're vinyl seat covers, the mold will probably be easy to clean off with any vinyl/leather auto upholstery cleaner. I'd remove the seats and clean them outside of the car.

If the mold is stubborn, some bleach would remove it. I have a home product called "Home Armor" Mold and Mildew stain remover, which contains bleach, which does an excellent job of removing mold. Bought it at Lowes for about $4.

Once clean, then treat the vinyl with some vinyl conditioner or dressing to rejuvenate and richen the black color, since it's probably somewhat dull and faded looking with age. Wipe down the conditioner after application with a microfiber cloth to reduce shine and so it won't be too slippery.
