Default source for unfinned drums(??)

I was wondering if I could buy OE un-finned drums for my 1970 Firebird - I was a dummy in the late 1990's, and tossed my originals without a second thought...

This was essentially the message I sent to a company today which advertized in 'Smoke Signals' as relining drums;
Their website stated they stocked many relined drums.
To my surprise, I recieved a prompt reply (I didn't expect a reply on Sunday!);
The gentleman replying seemed to have missed an important part of my query, because this was his reply:

Quote:
Hey Jonathan, I have 9.5 aluminum brake drums in stock for the Rear.
I have understood that the only aluminum 9.5" drums are the finned style used in the early(?) 1980's - like the ones my '80 Monte Carlo had - and I subsiquently swapped onto my Firebird, which is also why I tossed my (possibly original) unfinned unots off my Firebird...

So my question which I am now putting out to the knowledgable people here is;

Does anyone know if/where I can get original style unfinned cast iron drums for my Firebird?

Aluminum drums were used on 89-91 Camaro Z-28's as far as I know, Also had them on my '90 Formula Firebird .I have owned a few. These can be re -lined as the lining is steel bands.
Back to 1970 > I may have a extra set of 1970 dated drums. I will have to look.

My understanding the smooth drums as I thought was the correct term?

I have them on my 72 Formula. I'm pretty sure they are correct from 70-72?

Anyways that would include all f bodies built in 70-72 which would be a lot.

My guess the demand is limited?

Dated? I assume cast in the drum?

My 1973 Formula 455 has them. I had them turned to eliminate the surface rust and minor pits. Only one shop was able to perform that service.

Using casting number 3841177, a few usable cores pop up on Ebay...

The actual GM part number was 3841176.

Jonny, Here is the rear drum from my '71 Formula that is original and I see a stamped number 3995560 in the outer portion. I'm not sure these changed from 70 to 71, but maybe it might help...

Are they the same ones used on your 12 bolt as the 10 bolt?
