Default Lucerne Blue PPG DBC code 26 paint formula wanted

Hello All!

I had a half pint of PPG DBC mixed by my local paint store and it looks more like Adriatic Blue than Lucerne. Does anyone have the formula for Lucerne that they had a camera take a shot of there original paint?

The only panel I have left with paint is on the cowl side so I canít get it to the store for them to scan.

Thanks,
Stan

Totally agree! I guess I could switch brands from what Iím used to. The only other brand local is Axalta. (DuPont sold out to Axalta)

Anyone had any experience with Axalta?

These are the codes that supposedly a paint shop can cross reference them to paint now a days?

26 Lucerne Blue
Ditzler DDL code - 2213
DuPont Lucite Code - 5190L

John,

Had 4oz mixed in Axalta (used to be Dupont) and also in PPG.

Both colors do not match my original paint on the side of the cowl.

Been working with Dust and Sons (local jobber) getting closer with a custom mix.

Here is a pic of the Axalta on the left, Original in the center, PPG on the right

The Ppg looks like crap. The other one does not look much better.

Did you talk to Mike?
He used to be good at 'tinting' the paint to make it match.

He mixed my Coronado Gold paint way back, was in Imron then.
Painted my dragster that color also.

Also make sure they/you get the formula to make it when it matches.

John,

I haven't talked to Mike, if I can't get it I will. Not sure Hoppers is able to mix paint. Lincoln / Carquest is pretty much out of the paint business now.

I have a good relationship with the guys at Dust in Effingham. I have the formula about nailed down. I have the scales to be able to figure the added toner weights. I tinted my own and am happy with the results. I had them mix 4oz using "my" formula yesterday so it will be a documented repeatable formula. I will do a final spray out tonight then post comparison pics.

Thanks!!!

Check the other thread on the same question.

If you have BASF available near you, use their formula. When it comes to old paint codes and mixing formulas, I've found BASF to be damn near spot on every time.

A lot of these mix formulas don't match because of discontinued or substituted toners. I use PPG occasionally for custom jobs, but for exact paint code matches, PPG seems to be the furthest off from others.

Here is the Lucerne Blue Formula I'm restoring now. BASF products and it matched the original paint found on the cowl perfectly.

Well hereís the spray out. It took a while about 6 trips to the paint store and $200 in paint and toners. But Iím happy with the match. It even matches James welt.

The last pic is comparing to the original paint on the side of the cowl.

Have had a few guys PM me for the formula, Use at our own risk as all the cars seem to be a little different. I suggest you have a small amount mixed and do a test spray.

Any PPG paint store should be able to mix it.

PPG DBC------------------------8oz----Pint----Quart---Gallon

DMD1680 FINE ALUM.----65.8----131.6----263.2----1052.8
DMD1681 MED ALUM.---59.03---118.05---236.1-----944.4
DMD1676 BLUE------------33.3-----66.6----133.2-----532.8
DMD1607 BLUE-----------29.51----59.03---118.05----472.2
DMD1683 BLACK---------23.35----46.7-----93.4------373.6
DMD1687 MED ALUM.---11.26----22.53----45.05-----180.2
DMD624 VIOLET---------10.54----21.08----42.15-----168.6
DBX1689 CLEAR----------9.11------18.23----36.45-----145.8

I have used PPG for years . a lot of the old colors have not been formulated in newer paints. PPG uses a color library that groups old colors as a closest match. This should have been mentioned buy your jobber if noted on his formula

Even with custom mixing the metallics in new tints are hard to make correct . some of the old colors have a super fine metallic tint

Totally agree dld.

Same color across all GM lines. And also the available of toners.

I worked with my paint shop and did at least 10 formulas / spray outs. We have it as close as I think we can get it compared to a original paint area on the side of my cowl.

One area of concern, the violet toner is already obsolete in the system.

So mix it while you can!
