I just got my 71 Lemans Sport out for the first drive of the season. It has a 400 4spd and over the winter I gave it an engine bay resto. Everything is in fine working order except the oil light comes on intermitantly. It dosent stay on just flutters once and a while. The oil level is ok and I dont think the oil pump is the problem as I drove about 20 mile and there are no lifters making any noise. Could the sending unit be going bad or the wire that plugs into it? I did not remove the sending unit when I did the engine bay only unlpuged it. Please help as I cant stand when something is wrong with my baby.

The sending unit gives a ground to light the bulb when it does not have pressure. In other words, it is an open or close switch. open with pressure, closed without. Could be an intermittant ground in the wiring or a bad sender.

Car Guy,

Lightly crimp the sender wire clip and reinstall on the sender's spade contact. Thats how I fixed mine.

Thanks for the help. I will try these things out just as soon as the weather gets good enough to take a test drive.
