Does anyone have any idea what I would need to put a 73 455 in an 86 GMC full size 4x4?
The truck has a top loader trans w/granny gear. Motor is from a Grandville auto. Do I need an adapter or just a manual trans bell housing. Motor mounts?
Truck will be used for hauling, off roading, and the occasional 4x4 pulling contest.

I don't know, I'm from Pittsburgh where it used to be, you couldn't see the dead trees for the pollution. I grew up thinking firewood came from a different planet. All that time not knowing it came from Palmeren!

The frame should have the holes drilled in it for Old's deisle mounts, you can move the stock Chev. mounts to this position, get sollid block mounts for '72 FB Formula W/AC,these will fit over the Chev. mounts.Change the bellhousing ,should not have to move the tranny or the pivot for the clutch.Exhauhst will have to be custom made.If you are gong to use stock manifolds I would suggest using ones off 70 executive these sould give clearence enough to get you in the ball park for going around the transfercase. If going headers have fun.

You will need to run a BOP transmission Bellhousing.

isn't the car trans spacing [height] different from the truck unit? if i remember right the truck unit is about an inch taller. if redrilling is necessary i'd use a blowproof [steel] unit.
also use mid 70's g/p or fullsize engine stands. they will raise the engine up higher than the t/a units and will give the pan more clearance for the front axle.you'll want to use the 4x4 frame mounts and not 2wd truck mounts. the 2wd mounts are too tall for the application.
3x2s, i dont think the 86 models have the olds holes in the frame as that engine was discontinued in 81. the std chevy holes line up with either the g/p or the fullsize stands though. mike
