They haven't been able to re-up their inventory for over 3 months due to Covid19 and the China connection.
Since most of the big-box store bikes come from China / CoronaCapitol , it might be a while.
But i imagine they will get them again eventually.

Once some folks caught wind of that , they bought them up .... almost like the toilet paper pandemic.

A lot of opportunists on eBay with the $125 Chinago Schwinns for $250-500
A couple on my local craigslist too.

(see what i did there - Chicago / Chinago) haha

Here's one for you Krate collectors...MPC Models has reissued a 1/8 scale model kit. You can get it from Auto World and other sources for around $29.99.

There's a news story today that I thought was relevant to this discussion - a company named Detroit Bikes has partnered with Schwinn to build 500 Schwinn Collegiate bicycles this year. It's a small step, but it means they've at least brought a little bit of their production back to the US.

Got a blue three speed one of these that's in crazy good shape for its age.

I wish them the very best
But $800-900 price range seems like a deal breaker to me for that type of bike.

They should dial in on the old sporty bikes and make them as close to original construction as possible - instead of eventually pumping out more $125 Chinago versions.
Those would sell in good numbers.

Bulkheads with smooth contoured transistions instead of butt-welds
Thin forged front forks
Make them the real way they were made. Or at least fake that look somehow.

I found a picture in some on-line vintage Schwinn literature the other day that showed the Bulkheads were actually forged with the first few inches of the frame bars made into the assembly. The frame bar welds are actually a few inches back from the Bulkhead.

Never knew that.
Always thought it was magic or something
