Seems to be cheaper than the original in most cases.

Reminds me of the 66-77 style. They probably will sell a ton of them, that's what matters.

I have a Ford F-250 truck I just think these off road vehicles are more trending towards the millennial buyers. I have a 2019 Jeep Compass Limited, it’s turned out to be to small for my liking, I was hoping the new Bronco might be a good swap but I just don’t like the look, I also do not like the Explorer. I like the appearance of my two toned compass, the cabin is just to small. Always hitting our head on the roof when getting in.

I think it looks like those Toyota’s that sold 10 years ago or so. There’s a reason they stopped selling those..

Edit - I posted this just before I read the post before mine.

Owned a 1968 Kaiser Gladiator J2000 in high school. White wagon wheels and recapped mudders. If I remember correctly it had a 350 buick motor in it.

Yes, Jeep used the 350 buick from 1968 through 1971 in the Gladiator and Wagoneer series, that's what made it extremely simple to transplant a Pontiac V8 into them. You already had a T400 BOP transmission, or in the case of a stick the factory buick bell housing adapter.

That one was my service truck and snowplow/wrecker. It was a 1973 J4000 originally equipped with a 360 AMC engine, with Quadratrac. When the AMC decided to puke the timing chain, out it came for a 455 Pontiac substitute. The Quadratrac also gave up the ghost eventually, and I pirated a conventional part time transfer case in it's place. That truck had 4.10 axles under it, Dana 44, and a Dana 60 rear.

I never understood how the 1 ton dually Jeep I also owned, was a J3000, and the 3/4 ton single wheel was a J4000...............
Jeep used strange model designations not in any particular numerical order. Later on they shortened it to just, J10, 1/2 ton, J20, 3/4 ton, and J30 was 1 ton, dual, or single rear wheels.

I also owned a 1968 Military 5/4 ton M715 that I was in the process of converting in to a super wrecker, but due to life getting in the way, I never completed it. It also had a 455 Pontiac in it. Since I never completed it I don't have any pictures of it, but here's what one looks like in military trim:

Dana 60 in the front, Dana 70 in the rear and a divorced transfer case hooked to a T400 transmission, was the plan, but it never got finished. It would have been tough as nails for a wrecker base. I had also removed the canvas soft top and vertical windshield in favor of the civilian slant windshield, and hard top.

All my Jeeps, 3 Gladiator, J series, and 2 Wagoneers got the "JEEP/TO" Pontiac V8 transplants. The venerable Pontiac V8 was the thing Jeep engineers missed. It was a great powerplant for trucks and the early Wagoneer SUV platform. I used 350, 389, 400 and 455s in all the transplants I did, great engines for a Jeep with the low RPM torque curve. Perfect for pushing snow, and towing cars.

The Bronco Sport with the unibody and full independent suspension strikes me as more of a mall crawler than a serious off-roader. A turbo 3 cylinder base engine? Come-on Ford are you trying to steal a page from Suzuki's playbook?

The bigger 2 and 4 door versions are at least on a fully boxed frame much like the Ranger's, as I understand.

The base price of around 29k puts Bronco on good footing to duke it out with Jeep.

Not a ford guy, but I really like it. If I could go to jeep jamboree's with it, i"d consider one to replace my rubicon. I think it looks alot more like the old scout then it does the first gen bronco.

Damn, going down memory lane with a new Bronco thread.

It does remind me of a Scout II.

I was on a off-roading tear in my youth. I had a 70 Scout II two wheel drive version with the short cab. Damn near broke my foot one day pushing that sucker off because I forgot how short the wheelbase was.

After the Scout came and went, I moved on to a 73 CJ5.

Back on subject, my son loves them and is waiting for them to hit the used car market before buying.

Yes, that was the first thing I thought of myself. The round wheel openings and the aftermarket-ish looking wheel flares do make it look a lot like a 1980 Scout. Ford should have squared off the openings just a tad like on the early Bronco.

And then, you have the Mahindra Roxor which is a cross between a CJ3 and a CJ7 with a 2.5 diesel engine. A new simple old school Jeep with none of the rust out problems, and a fully boxed frame with front disc brakes.

The newest version has a grille reminiscent of the early F 40 toyota, because FCA won a lawsuit claiming it was too close to a wrangler style grille, claiming copyright infringement.

Classified as a ATV side by side when new, there have been people that have successfully had them titled for on road use.

I'd like to have one myself, but I just don't have the funds to spend on a novelty 4X4. It'd make a great push truck for the Sprint car races.............

I was wondering what ever became of that lawsuit. Definitely well justified.

Had this slipped by it would have been most amusing.

i think i like the new Bronco
The front end design is a bit sketchy
It does look like an old Scout and a newer FJ had dirty wild sex somewhere.

i thought i kinda liked the new FJ at first, because i like the old ones.
Until i got inside, and drove a new FJ

Do know i hate the new Jeep (4-door Scrambler) "Trucks"
awful looking things

The Bronco seems to have some real well thought out features.
It will be interesting to follow when they actually get built and tested.
I haven't liked hardly anything new in the past 30 years other than the 93-95 Grand Cherokee Limited and new Challengers.

Wrangler tires - that was a good catch
