Default Door locks to match existing keys

Is anyone reproducing locks to order to a specific key.

In the restoration of the car, one of my original door locks went missing, I’d like to replace it and match my other door and the ignition.

Alternatively, can I get all three new locks (Ign and 2 doors) made to the original key code?

I see that I could get all five locks on the car keyed alike from Ames. That sounds kind of nice, but I do have original keys and locks in pretty good condition currently, except for the one missing door lock..

I would try a locksmith for just one.

You must find a lock cylinder which uses the same letter which is on the original key. It can then be re-keyed to your original.

I have a spare pair of 73firebird door locks, if the key slides into them, will they be good candidates (correct letter key) for rekeying.?

To open up the lock cylinder is removing the chrome or stainless crimp ring on the outside necessary, I’m guessing not every locksmith is set up to do that and then replace the the ring?

Most locksmiths should have a Briggs & Stratton "cap kit" for replacing the stainless ring. The replacement ring will have 4 small tabs that crimp on as opposed to a completely crimped ring. The key code should be stamped on your door lock, have them key the replacement lock to that code.
