Default How to Insert Pictures from OneDrive?

I use OneDrive to save pictures.

Does anyone know a way to insert images stored on OneDrive??

When I use the OneDrive "Share" and "Get a link" to generate a URL for a picture saved in my OneDrive, then treat it like a URL within "[IMG]" and "[\IMG]", it never loads in Preview Post, but shows a "placeholder" of some kind instead.

I suspect OneDrive does not maintain the file in a format that this web hosting program can use, but thought I'd see if maybe my problem is only with preview by posting a test image here.

If you see a small black square with an X, it didn't work and I need help.

Here is the same URL treated as a link. Does this work for you?

https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resi...nt=photo%2cjpg

And here is the actual "url" generated by OneDrive in both cases:

"https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=D5886BC87D731122!29374&authkey=!ACp2kq raYlYjxyc&v=3&ithint=photo%2cjpg"

Any help is appreciated

Open the image in Paint. Then save as a JPEG image.

Thanks Ollie

I think this is a OneDrive issue, but I am not sure.

My photos are all JPG and uploaded that way, but OneDrive must not provide "direct" access to the image file in that format, at least when you use the link it provides.

I'm hoping some guru can explain, since OneDrive lets you share the images with Facebook and other apps. This tells me the forum software is not set up to deal with it for some reason.

I guess if I want to insert images, I will have to save them on a different hosting site unless someone has a specific solution for OneDrive.

I don't know anything about OneDrive.
Up load the photos to My Pictures, on Your computer.

Onedrive link is for a html web page of the image.
The image is in a page, which needs a browser to read it, and a [img img] won't show because it's not an image.
(if this makes any sense?)

Not sure if there is a way to just link an image, never tried it that way.
But I would think there is, probably in the help somewhere.

There you go!

In the link you posted, I clicked the 'View Original', when it showed the pic I highlighted the url in my browser and pasted it in the PY img tag.

I celebrated too soon.

Even though I could preview it now, the image still didn't load.

I went back and tried to change permissions by generating a link using the "share" option

Hoping this now does it..

Reduced to 800 pixels wide using paint, but seems to fill the page?

Trying again.. I opened the image using OneDrive, clicked "View Original", then copied and pasted URL.

When I preview, it shows up just fine

And even stranger, when I generated this post, all of a sudden all the previous images could be seen again...

I am really baffled.. must have something to do with permissions ??

Probably.

You are the owner of the one drive, so we are just viewing your file.
If you're changing the same file, it would I think be changing.

If the name is changed and no file exists, then we wouldn't see that file.

Are you using a separate file for each change you are trying?

I think you have to 'share' the img for anyone else to be able to see it.

thanks johnta1

I'll have to go learn more

The only obvious way to change permissions on OneDrive pictures is to generate a link and share it. You followed that link, so you had permission, I think.

This does not work for allowing access to the file for anyone through this forum

There is a "public" folder as a default that might be OneDrive's answer.

Can you see this? I copied a picture into the "public" folder, but did not generate a "share" link:

I don't see anything?

Or a link if not a picture.

Thanks again johnta

I give up.

I don't think I can get there from here using OneDrive.

It seems the security considerations do not allow me to grant "open" access to the files stored on my OneDrive. I can only provide access by sharing a link. I think when I did this before, you followed the link, which then gave you access to the file and you were able to also get the URL for the jpg.

My guess is you could then see any embedded image you had opened through a link, but not the ones I inserted without giving you a link..

I can still see them, but you can't.

It's like being in the OneDrive Twilight Zone !

This is probably a good thing in general, but for purposes of inserting images on this forum, not so much.

I'll just keep attaching them and if I feel a strong need to insert images inline, I'll open a "less secure" account on some other image sharing service.

What I do when I share pics with my wife, I 'share' a directory that I made of all the pics I am sharing.
(as opposed to separate files)

This link lets her see everything in that directory.

Maybe this would be what you want?

I'm not sure if I added other pics later if she could see them, but think she should be able to?
